mindlessdocumentation Posted September 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 11, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello again, I primarily use a 35mm summicron and sometimes find having the square lens shade blocking my view in the viewfinder really inconvenient. I was curious whether the zeiss shades were any better(as many of them are round), and if any of them fit on the Leica lenses. I am reluctant to shoot without a shade as, in addition to keeping the lens flare-free, it also protects it to a certain extent. Anyone have advice? alifie Posted September 12, 2008 Share #2 Posted September 12, 2008 I have the same lens and although it doesn't bother me the RH lower corner is indeed cut off a bit. I tried my 12585H hood, it fits a treat and has the classic inverted cone construction and only leaves a small line across the corner, much better. It is marked 1:2/35 as well as others so I don't expect vignetting The one I have was obtained years ago and has a mysterious cut out on it, this fits over the focus tab on the 35 (when reversed), I wondered what it was done for! Thats solved a mystery. Here's one the other way round... 12524 on 50 summicron, sexy but is it better than the 12585? - Photo.net Leica and Rangefinders Forum And a few for sale (f**k me they are costly!) alifie Posted September 12, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 12, 2008 And the slot! Note the use of combined long exposure to natural light and short flash exposure giving that sharp/blurry look of cheapo digicams

Kevin's Cameras :: 12585,12585H HOODS I too was less than amused by having the bottom right of the viewfinder blanked off so I tried a 12585 on the aspheric 35 Summicron, and it works fine, but its a bit loose and not so neat as the 12526 supplied with the lens and having the cap to keep dust off is useful. Then one day I looked at the 12592 hood for the 21 aspheric, and I noticed that it had a cut out in the appropriate corner of the hood, for no purpose that I can see on the 21 since the camera viewfinder is not used, but it suddenly occurred to me that this would be 'a good idea' on the hood for the 35. So about 15 minutes work with a moddelling drill and small files provided a cut out in the 12526, and voila, I can now see the bottom right corner of the viewfinder! alifie Posted September 12, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 12, 2008 Splendid, I am all for Leica Hacking. My original hood for the 35ASPH 'cron was a wee bit wonky, I think the mould tool had a bad day. That had to be dismanted, filed & mantled to straighten it. The lens hood, that much undervalued item. mindlessdocumentation Posted September 13, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted September 13, 2008 Thanks for the input. I think for now I will just grin and bear it (as the hood once saved my lens) and remove the thing for extra-careful composition when time and circumstance allow me to do so... I have a bent 12526 which took the shock when the M6ttl fell out of the camera bag once........ Mind you the replacement cost more than some cameras cost to repair! I can see where the costs go for making a Leica lens or camera, but such a price for a moulded plastic lens hood Gerry
abrewer Posted September 16, 2008 Share #8 Posted September 16, 2008 I've used the 35 'Cron ASPH extensively and have to say the lens shade has never been a problem to me (other than losing a couple of them!) Thanks Allan
