Question about Digilux 2 repair

Hi All,

I am a new Leica user, and I am glad that I found this forum!:)

My Digilux 2 stopped working a couple months ago. It basically just won't turn on (I tried two batteries, so I eliminated the possibility of bad battery.) I am wondering if this could be one of the symptoms of a defected sensor?

Also, I just learned that my blank warranty card won't do any good, so I am guessing I will have to pay for the cost if pertinent. If this is true, where should I send my camera to? Should I send it to New Jersy? Or is it better to send directly to Germany? Time won't be an issue here, a better quality of repair is more important. (and perhaps a lower repair charge? I am greedy....)

Thank you so much in advance!:)

Hi!

My Digilux 2 camera had the same symptoms. Before it stopped working totally it was under- or overexposing both the actual pictures as well as the preview in the LCD display/EVF.

I suggest that you send an email to <M8.Support@leica-camera.com> (support in Solms, Germany) without mentioning your warranty card at all first. Ask them what to do efter you have explained the symptoms. If the problem is sensor related (let's hope so!) you don't need the warranty card.

They will replace the sensor (and probably the lens, EVF and LCD) for free if the sensor needs to be replaced. They will also pay you back for your sending expenses (I sent the camera directly from Sweden to Solms, Germany)

Good luck!

H. C. Wei -

I'd opt for Leica, NJ, espcially if you live or work close enoughj to drop it off directly. I've found them to be fair, freindly, reliable, and when costs are involved, reasonable. I've also had quite a bit of "free" service. If necessary they will send it to Solms, but their local techs are more than competent for the services Solms authorizes them to do.

i have dealt (and am dealing) with NJ and they are reasonable in pricing and very good in their repairs (they have repaired defects, like my sensor and focusing ring free of charge). they replaced the top plate that i dented for a reasonable price.

Thanks so much for everyone's input! I will contact Leica, NJ and find out how to start the repair....

Hi H.C.

You just send your camera to New Jersey Leica facilties and tell them your CCD

need to be replaced and check all functions after replacement, they will honour

you and charge you nothing, and that's one good thing to buy Leica even somebody

the price is high!

Good Luck

Ray
