bobygunn Posted September 8, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, Im hoping to use my Nikon SB-600 with my M7 soon via a SB-17 cable. At the moment my widest lens is a 35mm Summicron but I’m considering looking for a used 28mm F2.8 as well, does anyone have any recommendations as far as this lens goes or to do with my flash setup? I plan on photographing skateboarding and similar sports on the streets, that’s my first idea. I’ll also do some portraits and whatever happens to take my fancy…….. cheers
Advertisement Posted September 8, 2008 Posted September 8, 2008 Hi bobygunn, Take a look here Which lens?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bobygunn Posted September 9, 2008 Author Share #2 Posted September 9, 2008 I forgot to mention before that I'm also cosidering using a hot shoe viewfinder for a 28mm lens.......... My M7 already has a .72 viewfinder so I have the ability to frame correctly, but I find that its annoyingly difficult to do because the frame lines are so close to the edges of the glass.....I have learned that there are expensive Leica external finders available but I might do just as well with a used 3rd party alternative for a fraction of the price. Any recommendations? Thanks.
cbretteville Posted September 9, 2008 Share #3 Posted September 9, 2008 As far as an external 28mm finder goes the Voigtlander 28mm Metal brightline finder is excellent. It is USD159 from CameraQuest Voigtlander Bessa RF Accessories - Carl
atwood1202 Posted September 9, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 9, 2008 i have the 28mm ultron and got used to the framing it is now the default lens on my camera...
bobygunn Posted September 9, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted September 9, 2008 Thanks for your opinions guys, the voightlander version does seem a good choice. Silly of me but I never previously considered how a hotshoe viewfinder would affect my planned flash setup! If I'm going to use the Nikon SB-17 flash cable from hotshoe to hand held flash I wont be able to slip in the viewfinder too! there must be a way around this? cbretteville Posted September 10, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 10, 2008 Superglue (epoxy is probably better) the top part of a coldshoe to the top of the camera end of the SC-17. A bit McGyver... - Carl
Photon42 Posted September 10, 2008 Share #7 Posted September 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) the SB600 is not what you want, as it only has Manual and Nikon TTL automatic. Go for a SB24/5/6, if you like the form factor, SB27, SB 22(s) or a SB8/900. All those have the A mode, which is quite convenient.
