JHAG Posted September 1, 2008 Share #1 Posted September 1, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know it's an old horse — but I'm found of all things old… I recently had the luck to find a 35 Summicron non-ASPH as new for a very low price. I never used the 35 Summicron ASPH. I've read several things about both but did not compare prints. Differences ? Correction : Summicron 35;)

toyfel Posted September 1, 2008 Share #4 Posted September 1, 2008 OK, thought you were joking. But it was a typo Can´t say much about the Asph vs pre-asph. Had the cron IV once but only very shortly. Gave it back to the seller because it turned out to be defective. Liked the size though. For me it is "the smaller the better".
abrewer Posted September 1, 2008 Share #5 Posted September 1, 2008 Agreed it's a dead horse Anyway, I think most agree the sharpness and color of the 35 ASPH gets the nod over the 35 non-ASPH It's a tougher choice with the 50 ASPH v. non-ASPH as the OOF area of the non really turns more heads than the ASPH and has retained great favor I shoot the 50 ASPH and love it for portraits; the 35 ASPH f2 for just about everything else
Photoskeptic Posted September 1, 2008 Share #6 Posted September 1, 2008 Don't know if this helps or not. I shoot a 35 ASPH on my M8 and a 50 Cron IV on my M3. Sharpness and contrast are better on the ASPH, but bokeh is much better with the pre-ASPH. The 50 is no slouch when it comes to sharpness and contrast - but there is a discernable difference between the two. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. Depending of the shot, I crave for bokeh or aim for sharpness.
