peter_n Posted August 16, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 16, 2008 He is a Leica user. His book Faces of the North is beautiful, but difficult to buy (the Iclandic publishers don't seem to be interested in selling it, that's for sure!). Highly recommended! bill Posted August 16, 2008 Share #8 Posted August 16, 2008 Well spotted, Kenneth, thank you. Some of his work reminded me of the late lamented Galen Rowell. Galen Rowell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia As an aside, I particularly liked the intimacy of "step closer" ...a nice, non-technical way of getting the message across. photogdave Posted August 16, 2008 Share #9 Posted August 16, 2008 One of the Step Closer photos was used in the large Leica calendar a couple of years ago.

kenneth Posted August 16, 2008 Author Share #12 Posted August 16, 2008 Well spotted, Kenneth, thank you. Some of his work reminded me of the late lamented Galen Rowell. Galen Rowell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia As an aside, I particularly liked the intimacy of "step closer" ...a nice, non-technical way of getting the message across. Regards, Bill Too right Bill- I met Galen and he was a sad loss the the mountaineering community- his early stuff was superb especially the shots he took on the Baltoro Glacier walking into K2- you don,t see expeditions of that size any more. This site is also worth a look talking of Galen Rowell Nature's Reflection Home
jacelech Posted August 17, 2008 Share #13 Posted August 17, 2008 Thanks for the reference to the Axelsson photo on the Leica 1.4/50 page. I saw an exhibit of Ragnar Axelsson's prints in (of all places) Union Station in Washington DC some years and was struck by their immediacy and compelling connection to the land and the people. The prints were very beautiful, classic silver gelatin under glass, printed quite large with captions. At the time, I had no idea who he was or where the work had originated. Later, there was his website, which I've enjoyed revisiting many times. I just found a copy of his "Faces of the North" on Amazon in the U.K. and ordered directly from them, awaiting shipment. Although the shipping to the US is expensive, Amazon US didn't list the book, and I was never ably to find it on eBay or in other local sources. M film cameras and lenses are wonderful tools for certain individuals. I found they opened doors for me I was never able to attain with SLRs, although I love composing in the groundglass or viewfinder just as much as being engaged in breaking action. Love reading these threads. Best wishes to all, Jacek
