Just Bought an Upgrade to the Digilux 3

I have finally acquired an upgrade for my Leica Digilux 3 - yes there are several available mostly made by Olympus.

In my case I have acquired an Olympus E-520. Nope the handling is not as good as my old Digilux 3 and I miss this most, but it has all of the upgrade features that I had hoped Leica would deliver to me as one of their many Four Thirds users. But they have simply been too quiet about their commitment (or rather lack of) to the Four Thirds format for too long.

The good news is that I am able to continue to use my two favourite Leica lenses on my new camera namely the Summilux 25mm f1.4 and the Vario Elmarit 14-150mm f3.5-5.6, except of course there aren't really Leica lenses at all but Panasonic (but non the worse for being so.

So my total ownership of Leica photo gear has just gone to zero. Thanks Leica for your silence and neglect.

A disgruntled former customer.

Well your lenses are branded Leica so they are Leica (and you can still post images here if you wish!).

If as we suspect the sales of the Digilux 3 have been so poor, you can't blame Leica for not rushing out another 4/3 camera. With the new micro system which Olympus and Panasonic are launching it remains to be seen if they will continue developing more 4/3 cameras or switch the the new micro type.

TC,

im still holding out a bit longer but i understand why you had to move off the Digilux 3. i love using this camera with my R lenses. As an owner of the R9, (i had a DMR), digilux 3 and various R lenses i dont think the new R10 will entice me.

i would be more likely to go the route you did. BUT lets see what the next show produces for Leica

I didn't like the Digilux 3 when I tried it earlier this year because it wasn't the upgrade I was hoping for my Digilux 2 -- too heavy, big and, more importantly, noisy (I do quite a bit of event photography so the mirror clacking in a silent hall won't be appreciated).

But someone is now offering me a Panasonic L1 for about US$320 and at that price I'm sorely tempted... I might get it just so I have a platform to start using R lenses. And I love the images from the Digilux 3 + R lens that's been posted in the photo forum! With a 28mm as well as 60mm macro I think it'd be an ideal camera for street, architecture and portraits, which I also like.
