Advertisement Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Hi Eelco Beket Amsterdam, Take a look here Spots. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rob_x2004 Posted August 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 11, 2008 Moisture spots on a neg reshaping the substrate? Sneeze? Interesting ones.
kaytee Posted August 12, 2008 Share #3 Posted August 12, 2008 These aren't spots but I'd appreciate it a lot if someone told me what they are. I'm new to film, and these strange stripes came out in one of the first rolls I hand-developed. I chalked it up to the developing process, or perhaps gripping the squeegee too tight. I wasn't bothered but the stripes came out again in a roll I shot last Sunday. What's causing them? Thanks, Karen
thomasw_ Posted August 12, 2008 Share #4 Posted August 12, 2008 hi, my guess is those are water streaks, though the negs look scratched at the top too. They seem too random to be caused by the shutter. Do you use some sort of photo-flow rinse? try snapping your negs before hanging them to dry; it get most of the water off. andybarton Posted August 12, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 12, 2008 Are you agitating the developer properly? WRT to original post, are these on a slide or a negative?
rob_x2004 Posted August 12, 2008 Share #6 Posted August 12, 2008 When I say spots (first image) I mean I am guessing the emulsion has been deformed by something....wet. What kind of film? Those broad streaks are very regular and perfectly straight, and in line with the scanner path. I wonder?
kaytee Posted August 12, 2008 Share #7 Posted August 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use Photo Flo before running a squeegee through the neg. I do not dip the squeegee in the Photo Flo solution as suggested in another thread. I'll try that next time, along with the snap. I hope I'm agitating the developer right - four inversions and a tap in the first ten seconds of each minute. It didn't occur to me it could be the scanning because this was scanned along with other rolls, and it was just this particular roll that had stripes. Also, the stripes don't appear in each frame. I'll prolly have this neg rescanned just to eliminate that possibility. Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm relieved you don't think it's something serious like the shutter. rob_x2004 Posted August 14, 2008 Share #8 Posted August 14, 2008 the stripes don't appear in each frame............I'm relieved you don't think it's something serious like the shutter. Given it is probably from your MP ... I would be making sure it is not the scanner, then eMailing Solms customer service for advice.
kaytee Posted August 14, 2008 Share #9 Posted August 14, 2008 I spent ten minutes just staring at the neg of that pic against the light looking for stripes (there were a lot of scratches though) and finally went out to rescan my striped rolls. The stripes are gone! It was the scanner after all. (I don't see stripes. Do you?) Thanks for all your help! I'm so glad I don't have to call Solms. My MP is perfect.
