chris_livsey Posted September 5, 2008 Share #21 Posted September 5, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Please, tell me what was your first impression when you looked through the waistfinder, I was amazed by the clarity and the depth of the image, it seemed to pop-out the screen! Another Hassy welcome. You will I am sure have found that clarity dept and pop extend to the print as well, if the chain is good enough. If it doesn't attend to the chain

Leitzmac Posted September 6, 2008 Share #22 Posted September 6, 2008 Ben: I came a little late to this post, but very glad to see you went with the Hassi. I have absolutely no doubts the other brands mooted are all excellent cameras but I have been shooting on the V system for some time now and I still remember the first time I placed the trannies on a lightbox, I was transfixed by the three dimensional quality - the Zeiss T* lenses are excellent performers, after that it would prove impossible for me to shoot med. format on anything else... I currently shoot M.F. on a 503 CW with 50, 80, 120 Makro and 150 lenses. Although I have shot solely film on the CW thus far I like the fact that it is (to a certain extent) future proof with regards to accepting digital backs and if I ever need it will take a winder. The 80 is one of the newer designs, the 120 and 150 are early(ish) CF and the 50 which has been quite a revelation is an early C T*. I'm sure the current CF FLE 50s are incredible, but must enthuse that for a lens that's 40 odd years old my 50 is capable of producing simply stunning image quality and it is such a seductively tactile lens to use. Somewhat amusing to be on the l-forum and feeling the Hassi camaraderie, having said that, I definitely own Leicas and Hasselblads for the same reasons: glass quality, build quality and tactility/ergonomics, they are very satisfying cameras to use. I was recently in the mountains in Patagonia and shot some black and white - Pan 50 and FP4 using the 150 for length, but mostly the 50 (of course!) and I must say I don't think I'll ever tire of my Hassi, it, like my Leicas will certainly out-live me and hopefully somebody will still be shooting b+w on it after I've moved on, what was it someone said? "You never actually own it, you just look after it for the next generation!" P.S. Chris, you're right on the ball, your great posts wholeheartedly agreed with. sharookh Posted September 8, 2008 Share #23 Posted September 8, 2008 Ben - Congratulations on your super purchase. You will not be disappointed. The Hasselblad is truly a class act - ofcourse I don't need to enlighten you about that!!! The one system with NO obsolescence built in! I am presently eyeing the CFV II digital back to attach on to my CW!! May have to sell house and home for that;-) Anyway - welcome to this club, too. roguewave Posted September 9, 2008 Author Share #25 Posted September 9, 2008 I just got my first negs back from the lab, Scanning as I type this, Very exciting have a negative this large to pay with. The learning curve on the Blad is steep, but I'm enjoying the climb. That 120 CFI is sharp, with nice bokeh. I took it to Chinatown and got some really wonderful portraits of the street vendors. BTW is there a good forum to post images, get some feedback & help with the Blad and medium format issues in general. I need all the help I can get. BTW, I'm looking at either the 40 or 50, & would love hear about their relative merits and short comings. Thanks again to everyone and glad I posted this in the first place. erl Posted September 9, 2008 Share #26 Posted September 9, 2008 Ben, great to know it is all being successful. Your comments are inspiring me to get my Blad outfit out of mothballs (yes, I am ashamed to admit it) and relive the joys. Somehow, my Leicas have taken over what my Blad did so well for more years than I can remember. Lens wise, I can totally reccomend the 40mm (late model with floating element). It is much more compact and better resoltion. The old model is huge and badly balanced on the camera. I believe the late model 50's are great but I went for the 60mm instead, as it represents a better step from the 40mm. Also, the 60mm is very compact and an excellent lens. Would be a great street lens. If you find a website to post Blad pics in, let us know here. I could even be easily inspired to join in the 'Leica/Blad' brigade of posters and relive the 'good 'ol days'!
Rolo Posted October 2, 2008 Share #27 Posted October 2, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just come across this thread whilst chasing one of Ben's fine images. Congratulations Ben for progressing to the Upper School. Although I'm really late, I thought it would be incomplete without a photo of my Hasselblad 203FE with CFV back. If you like nice equipment, you just like nice equipment ! My excuse. Rolo Welcome, dear visitor! haris Posted October 3, 2008 Share #28 Posted October 3, 2008 if I could scan 120, I would be very tempted by a Rolleiflex For big stuff try f32 Large Format Photography Community of Practice If you can't afford Imacon/Hasselblad scanner, Epson 4990 or V700/750 could be choice... Leitzmac Posted October 3, 2008 Share #29 Posted October 3, 2008 "what was it someone said? "You never actually own it, you just look after it for the next generation!"" PATEK PHILLIPE Thanks Sharookh, knew it was someone of note! Perhaps the Leica/Hassi one would read: "You never actually own it, you just get a hell of a lot of pleasure out of using it, possibly make some truly great pictures along the way and then pass it on to the next generation to do the same" or perhaps "If Carlsberg made cameras, they would probably look a little something like this: (insert picture of your favourite Leica M or Hassi V!)" Rolo Posted October 3, 2008 Share #30 Posted October 3, 2008 BTW is there a good forum to post images, get some feedback & help with the Blad and medium format issues in general. I need all the help I can get. BTW, I'm looking at either the 40 or 50, & would love hear about their relative merits and short comings. Thanks again to everyone and glad I posted this in the first place. I've subscribed to several 'Blad forums and the members seem pretty slow to produce images. Hasselblad Info: V-System - Medium Format Forum appears to be the most enthusiastic. Flexframe - Flexframe : Imacon and Hasselblad Back Users - is full of world class shooters with Hasselblad and quality advice on gear and technique is freely available , but membership is restricted to owners of Hass digital backs. Flickr has many Hasselblad focus Groups and photo.net is very active with some seriously good stuff in the galleries from MF. This LU Forum is very good and feels like home and as a 'Leica shooter' I'd prefer to post all my stuff here, but that's not to be. Rolo
erl Posted October 3, 2008 Share #31 Posted October 3, 2008 Rolo, I think I am already 'regretting' you posting Blad stuff here! That CVF back absolutely stings my eyes. .... and its 'only $10000. Get thee behind me satan (the devil made me buy that dress comes to mind). It must be a much better investment than money in the bank!! Is there no hope for the wicked? My 203FE is pleading with me for a playmate.
chris_livsey Posted October 4, 2008 Share #32 Posted October 4, 2008 Just curious Rolo, did you tilt the Plexiglas or shoot it level and tilt in photoshop ?
