I went to buy a Canon G9 today, and was told by the sales person (at Samy's in LA, on Fairfax, a big place)that the G9 is no longer available or shipping from Canon, because they're about to replace it.

Anyone else hear anything like this? I actually don't care, and am sure I will find one that I can buy. Just wondering...

Wouldnt surprise me but you want to make sure you can get your underwater housing first.

I think they need to bring an update, since Pana introduced the LX3 and Nikon is coming with a new P6xyz which will also allow RAW.

I only hope the G10 will have a smaller zoom range in tele, but at least the same 28mm equivalent AND better aperture like 2.0 ;)

Amazon's site has them arriving on August 12. But on the Canon forum a poster said what you are reporting. B&H told him to expect a new model in two weeks. Of course, who really knows?

I don't normally delay purchases based on rumors, but maybe that would be a good idea in this case. The current model does have some shortcomings the new one might improve.

I went back today, and they showed me on their computer that they have a waitlist for over 30 of them... and no idea when they're getting them in. They haven't had them in over a month. Then I checked various forums and everyone is expecting a new version of it in the next few weeks. Lots of online blather about new functions and features, the only one of which interests me would be a CMOS sensor with better ISO handling.

Of course, a competent Leica compact would be nice, too... I have the D-Lux 3, and can't stand it. I doubt v. 4 will be any different in the things that bother me (the way it handles, etc.)

Shootist, didn't you leave a response here?...

I thought I did? But it's not here. I said I have a G9 that I don't use and am willing to sell it to you for a cheap price. It's about 3-4 months old and comes complete with all original accessories. PM me with your email address and I'll let you know what I want for it.

You did, I remember reading it, not sure where it went?

  • 2 weeks later...

Oh Noozzz.... other brands. Better put the head back under this Leica rock.

This is Leica's (un)official forum... it can't hurt them to hear about products we like from the competition :-) Think of it as a service we're providing to the R+D Dept.
