Iron Flatline Posted August 2, 2008 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all. Anyone know if there is one of those underwater housings for the D-Lux 3 (or the Lumix equiv.)? I want to take some pics in the pool... What about for the Canon G9? Advertisement Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 Hi Iron Flatline, Take a look here Underwater housing for D-Lux 3? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted August 2, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 2, 2008 Iron Flatline - If you are going to take the camera to no greater depth than that of a swimming pool you will not need flash, and you will not need an underwater housing designed to reseist the pressures of depth. Both Ewa-Marine and DiCAPac make various appropriate, shallow depth housings to fit a host cameras. Beofre sujecting your camera to risk I'd put something of its size and weight into the case, seal the case, and then take it to the bottom of hte pool. If there are no leaks, then you're safe as long as you're careful to reseal it exactly the same way.
pgk Posted August 2, 2008 Share #3 Posted August 2, 2008 Try http://www.wetpixel.com and/or http://www.digideep.com where you should find masses of info on cameras and housings. I've meant to look into this but have never done so seriously although tentative efforts have drawn a blank. I have a friend with an older Panasonic which works very well indeed underwater in the appropriate Panasonic housing - she rates the Leica lens of course!!! Iron Flatline Posted August 2, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted August 2, 2008 Holy Crapola: Kastesa UHC-LD3 for Leica D-Lux3/Panasonic LX-2 $1,690 -------- EDIT: That's probably HK Dollars, meaning it's around US$200. --------- EDIT x2: Unfortunatelly it’s not Hong Kong dollars, it’s in Taiwaneese New Dollars, and that will be like 1520 USD. 1 TWD = 0.0309157 USD 1 USD = 32.3460 TWD
stuny Posted August 3, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 3, 2008 Iron Flatline - The Kastesa is a true SCUBA type design, probably good to 40 meters of depth and pressure. And the price you see does not include a flash, flash arm, base tray and connecting cable. Unless you're doing SCUBA, and unless you are skilled enough with SCUBA to have complete buoyancy control I would not reccommend trying underwater photography at depth. In your swimming pool is a different story and either of the two manufacturers I suggested will do. You can see pleny of my at depth underwater photos on our site. The underwater photos in our Borneo and our Papua New Guninea photo galleries are the most recent and most numerous. Welcome, dear visitor! Iron Flatline Posted August 3, 2008 Author Share #6 Posted August 3, 2008 Thanks Stuart. My buoyancy is actually pretty good, my wife and I are pretty experienced ScUBA Divers... and as you have guessed, I just want something for the pool. Thanks for the guidance... ...this has turned into an excuse to buy a Canon G9. Canon makes a nice water case for it. This leads to this thread.... Nicoleica Posted April 20, 2009 Share #8 Posted April 20, 2009 Will this fit the D-Lux 4 - with the new hooks on the site? It's too expensive anyway... According to my calculator, NT$1690 is only a little over US$50. Sounds pretty cheap to me. EDIT: I've just looked up the price, and it's NT$49,000 which is about US$1500. Wooo! That is expensive.
