timetraveller Posted July 29, 2008 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone! I own a Leica M3 SS which needs adjusment of the shutter. 1/1000 is off for one stop, and 1/500 for 1/2 stop. I'm thinking in sending the camera to Solms(germany), have you ever sent a camera to repair there? How was the experience? What about prices?? Than you P.D. I live in Spain, if you know a good repairman in Madrid, it would be great!

earleygallery Posted July 30, 2008 Share #2 Posted July 30, 2008 If its just the shutter then a standard CLA should include adjustment of the shutter. Whilst Leica would no doubt do an excellent job they aren't cheap - UK quoted me approx £400 for a CLA on an M2. Take to a local repairer and you will probably pay 1/3 of that. I don't know any repairers in Spain but there are several good ones in the UK, or I would suggest you speak to your nearest Leica dealer who will no doubt have a local contact for repairs. martinvath Posted July 31, 2008 Share #4 Posted July 31, 2008 A month ago I had a R4 sendt to Solms for CLA, new light sealings, and a rear film window. It would cost me over 700$ to get this fixed. Instead I bought a R-E and cancled the repair of the R4. Like James said, try to find an alternative repairshop if You don´t want to pay that much. I have heard that the cameras that comes back from Solms look and works like new though. kind regards:-) Martin
andybarton Posted July 31, 2008 Share #5 Posted July 31, 2008 My M2 was CLA'd by Leica UK for about £150 only 2 years ago. That included replacement parts. Looks like they are using Zimbabwe as their benchmark inflation rate
earleygallery Posted July 31, 2008 Share #6 Posted July 31, 2008 Andy, Either they did you a favour or they've ramped the prices up to 'deter' some business if they're busy enough with M8 issues (lens coding/calibration etc). I have also been quoted up to £150 for a lens CLA.
