elansprint72 Posted July 27, 2008 Share #1 Posted July 27, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Excellent day out today, nice to see the regulars and also Wizard from Munich. Nominations now required for the next away fixture for Lord Barton's XI; I guess this will be in the season of falling leaves, so we need a place with lots of leaves. I wondered if we could do a sort of moving-on mini tour of the Lake District, say 20 minutes at one photo site, pile in the cars and off to the next? wizard Posted August 4, 2008 Share #2 Posted August 4, 2008 Pete, having just traveled (both by foot and by car) the Lake District, I do envy you guys already for the ability to zoom up there in autumn for the next meeting. Though I won't be attending, I can certainly second your choice of location. Best regards, Andy

kenneth Posted August 18, 2008 Share #4 Posted August 18, 2008 Thanks Wizard. No takers, then? I might be interested but due to ill health I don,t drive anymore. What part of the Lakes are you thinking of?
andybarton Posted August 18, 2008 Share #5 Posted August 18, 2008 What itinerary did you have in mind? Don't forget that the Lake District car parks get full of Southern Jessies and townies who have no right to be there ( ) pretty early, so a multi-centre visit could be tricky logistically. November? pgk Posted August 18, 2008 Share #6 Posted August 18, 2008 Although I'm from 'across the border' I'd be interested in a Lake Disrict day if you'd allow foreigners into that northern preserve:confused: .
andybarton Posted August 19, 2008 Share #7 Posted August 19, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) So long as you don't bring S4C with you - I get enough of that at home Coniston is a good centre to start from - we could probably drive up to the old copper mine from there, plus there's the water. Good pub there too.

elansprint72 Posted August 20, 2008 Author Share #11 Posted August 20, 2008 November sounds good- daylight hours are short but the Southern Jessies will be in Tossermolinos or somewhere equally dreadful. At that time of year it is usually possible to get photos in the tourist spots without tribes of grockles everywhere. Coniston sounds good (although to get to the mines your motor must be capable of 33% gradients), things like Beatrix Potter's house, Hawkshead village, Grandge, the pier at Bowness and other locations you would not dream of trying in the Summer are possible. My idea behind this suggestion was a tour for the non-mountain men, who could jump from their Lagondas, shoot a few snaps with their Hermes M9s and jump back in without getting their bench-made Gucci loafers wet. The Conservatives are going to sort all this out by moving everyone South leaving the wild untamed North to us. Wonderful, and yes, I am an elitist. And my favourite areas are, in no particular order Wasdale with the finest mountain crags in England- Duddon Valley- Eskdale- and Ennerdale. elansprint72 Posted August 22, 2008 Author Share #15 Posted August 22, 2008 Pete - are your three brothers in your new avatar Leica photographers? Not exactly; although we did have a sheltered upbringing; I'm not saying were were posh but the toilet coughed before it flushed. Then we fell on hard times; our house was so damp, they didn't pull it down, they torpedoed it. We were so poor, our mouse left us and went to live with the church mice. ...... with apologies to my brother, above me in the avatar.

You tourists from Yorkshire are always welcome, as long as you remember the combination to your wallet-locks. Signed, The Westmerian. I think you will find that Wasdale has the tallest mountain in England- the deepest lake in England and the biggest liar in England if you check your local folklore linked to the Inn

If you ask me really nicely; I'll post a photo of their private railway station. Welcome, dear visitor!
