Hello everyone,

I've just become the proud owner of a lifelong ambition to own a Leica and recently purchased a second-hand Digilux 2 in excellent condition, which has had the sensor changed. After using it over the weekend, I have noticed that when using it manually, it doesn't appear what aperture/shutter speed combination I use, the brightness of the displayed picture remains the same (more or less). Now any other digital camera I have used in manual mode, the brightness of the picture displayed changes with the amount of light entering the camera. Is this normal for the Digilux 2, or do I have a problem?

Many thanks,

John.

John, Welcome to the Forum.

The D2 will do fully manual, manual aperture, or manual shutter. If you leave either lens control on A, the camera will perform that function for you. If you want everything to be manual, you must move the aperture to the setting you want and then the shutter to the speed you want.

The brightness in the viewing screen always remains the same before you take the picture. The camera is assisting you in viewing. When you review the picture, you should see the results of your settings.

Regards,

Hi and welcome to the Forum. No you do not have a problem. As far as I know the Digilux 2 is very much the same as my LC1 .You have an electronic viewfinder like a little tele.screen and it does not change as you alter settings. You should be able to go into the menu however and adjust the brightness to suit your requiremnts. If I have got anything wrong I'll very soon be corrected.

Hi John, welcome to the forum from yet another D2 owner.

On full Auto no details of speed/aperture appear on screen or on EVF as per choice. On full manual both appear. On aperture priorlty the chosen aperture appears and on speed priority the chosen speed appears.

If this does not happen try cycling through the display button options.

Screen/EVF brightness remains as your setting via a menu option.

Hi Brian and many thanks for the tips. My problem was actually to do with the image brightness that appears on either screen does not change when using manual modes. Unlike any other digital camera I have owned in the past. Usually, the screen darkens when underexposed or lightens when overexposed. The Digilux 2 does neither, so I thought I had a problem, but that does not appear to be the case.

Kindest regards,

John.

John,

Welcome to the forum from another D2 owner and congratulations on your purchase!

Some people who use the D2 find it a little quirky at first but bear in mind that in digital camera terms this is now a 'senior' camera. It takes its good time to save pictures to the SD card but once I got used to its sedate ways I found it a charming camera to use that can produce outstanding images. Despite now owning more advanced cameras I can't see a day when I would part with my D2 unless Leica miraculously produces an updated version.

Please post some pictures in the Photo forums when you're ready!

Pete.
