Hi, I concur with an earlier entry stating the photos will be the same in a IIIF as an M series. But, the M series is much more convenient (great finder and easier loading) and, as you've stated, it does use your quality M lenses. The IIIF is more of a candid camera due to its smaller size; if you must buy a IIIF you might consider using mostly CV lenses as they are generally much better than the available screw mount Leitz lenses. While the M3 does not accommodate wide angle lenses as smoothly as the M2 and later M's, it is more widely available and second to none in quality. Hope your choice pleases you, which is what will matter. ron

ok. today i began looking around shinjuku and ginza. i found a leitz elmar 2.8cm f6.3 (750USD) & a leitz elmar 5cm f3.5 (450USD). these are two lenses i like most because they are almost flat on camera body. according to shop salesperson; these two lenses were both made before war which is in 1930s so i guess they are kinda rare?? i tried them on my M8 and the 2.8cm elmar seems to win my selection cuz it's a bit brighter and sharper than the 5cm elmar. however, my only concern for the 2.8cm elmar is its slow speed. the IIIf bodies are harder to decide because there are so many of them in various conditions. some look brand new which can cost about 1500USD and some are little dirty which can go as low as USD400. funny that now i kinda also concern how the barnack lens will perform on my M8 since i have a feeling i will be using it on my M8 too. sorry for troubling you guys again with my indecisiveness.

Dear All,

M8 is my first Leica camera and I'm totally loving it. I also own 4 M lenses. However, I'm also curious to shoot film with Leica cameras; so I'm considering buying a Leica film camera. What I have in mind now is the Leica IIIF for its compactness and old-fashioned kinda images it captures. The only problem is that M lenses can't be used on it. I think about M series film camera bodies, but they're rather too big. I would appreciate it if anyone can give me some suggestions/advice. Thanks in advance.

A fleabay auction just ended with a clean M3 going unsold at <700$. Even with a 100 day mechanical warranty. That would be my choice with a Digi6. This is my 2nd choice to an M6 with a .85 VF for use with longer lens and a Digi6 a carry along light meter. This way my 35/1.4 could live on my MP.

I do get "old time images" with a Contax IIIa CD and old Zeiss glass, and processing in Brazil. My guess is the older lower contrast lenses and Fuji Reala. Though I did have a Kodak once that gave that Old Time Look. It was crazy, everyone came out wearing big hats, guns, mustaches, garters and vests in the final image.
