stuny Posted September 22, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) As we climbed a small mountain in Nosy Mangabe, Madagascar, we unexpectedly encountered this old tomb. You can see more of Nosy Mangabe (lemurs, chameleons, frogs, landscapes) on the first page of Madagascar photos on our site.

MrEd Posted September 23, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 23, 2006 Hi Stuart, That's one strange place if you asked me. I wouldn't want to spend a night alone in a place like that. Cool shot. Thanks for sharing. Ed. .
biglouis Posted September 23, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 23, 2006 Great shot. I have to admit attempting to see what it would look like as a b/w shot but comparing my result with the original I think the green/blue overtones are more striking. stuny Posted September 23, 2006 Author Share #4 Posted September 23, 2006 Ed - Thank you. I have a number of really creepy shots -- a pit with neatly arranged skulls and bones at the cathedral in Lima, a caged area filled with skulls at St. Catherine's in the Sinai, and a number of funerary bundles and pit near Nazca. Perhaps I should post a "creep you out" series, but those were all pre digital, and my scanning skills are so poor that they have caused deaths. Louis - thank you. Now you have me wondering. Here’s a B&W version. I desaturated and then slide the bright and mid tone sliders just a bit in ACD See.
ponsoldt Posted September 23, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 23, 2006 I like it better in Black and White. Its a great shot for halloween. Bill
ijporter Posted September 24, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 24, 2006 I'm only joking, but what Stuart didn't tell us that these are not really tombs but letterboxes with slots on their 'other' sides to enable the postman to deliver his letters to this very close-knit Madagascan hermit community. BTW, I prefer the colour version. Ian
stuny Posted September 24, 2006 Author Share #7 Posted September 24, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Bill & Ian - Thank you. And Ian, I guess you like the Monty Python routine about the large colony of hermits.
ijporter Posted September 28, 2006 Share #8 Posted September 28, 2006 Hi Stuart Yes, I do like Monty Python and yes, the community of hermits sketch was a favourite! Ian
