stuny Posted July 8, 2008 Share #5 Posted July 8, 2008 As a child I went to a wonderful summer camp operated by a man who taught woodshop in the public school systems. He was exceptionally rich and didn't have to work, but he wanted to teach children how to use their hands to create. His birthday was in the summer and every year all the campers and counselors would chip in to buy him a birthday present, which always was an animal. One year we bought him a de-scented skunk which he promptly named Chanel #5."
hoppyman Posted July 13, 2008 Share #6 Posted July 13, 2008 A simple question for the Leica people. Who won the Dior Perfume/Leica M8 contest? According to the Dior site, Alastair Firkin, a (fellow) Australian Leica shooter. The winning shots taken with an R9 and DMR. Alastair shoots with an M8 as well. Now he will have two! But Alastair has heard nothing from Dior nor from Leica about winning so far. You can see Alastair's winning shots here Leica/Dior Some of his other work here alastair firkin The first four are his entries and the second four are by his partner, Helen. Alastair has also recently completed editing a large collection of photographs by Leica photographers from a five year period. The book is called Family of Man 2 and is published by Blurb. It is a magnificent and inspiring book. You can look at it here, if interested The Family of Man 2 Project | By the Leica Users Group edited by Alastair Firkin | Blurb
stunsworth Posted July 14, 2008 Share #7 Posted July 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just to add that I met Alastair in Oz a few years ago, and he's a very friendly person with a love of photography and Leica. I don't know if he's a member here. The book that Hoppy mentions was a labout of love on Alastair's part. The images selected were chosen over a 5 year period, and I was fortunate to be one of the judges for three or four of those years. The book itself it wonderful - and I'm not just saying that because some of my photographs were selected.
alastair Posted July 14, 2008 Share #8 Posted July 14, 2008 G'day all, I think I have won the contest: surprise to me to be sure, but I'll take it. Not that I have heard anything from Dior/Leica yet, only the announcement on the Dior site. Thanks Hoppy for posting those details, along with the recently finished book Family of Man 2. Cheers to all Alastair
