Half Case for an M6?

Hi!

I have there one questions about half cases made of leather. I just bought one of them from leicatime for my M6 TTL. Do you keep your cameras all the time in the cases or only when you go out to take pictures with them? Can make the leather any damage to the camera, when you let the camera in the case all the time, even if it is at home laying in the closet.

Thank you very much!

Daniel

Reasonable question, Daniel.

I do tend to keep my M2 and IIIc in their Luigi cases at all times, but they are used regularly and are not "closeted"; they sit on a shelf or table when not in use. I live in the UK so I don't have to contend with tropical humidity - if I did, I would be far more cautious. Leather is, after all, a natural product and can hold moisture.

Regards,

Bill

deep down it's purely for fashion.

Reasonable point. After all, the photograph of the half-case earlier in the thread is painfully pretentious (and rather pompous at the same time) with the fancy (Montblanc?) pen, the Moleskine style travel journal, etc. I'd rather assumed it was a tongue-in-cheek stock shot illustrating some kind of 'old fart/English gentleman abroad' idea but now I'm not quite so sure.

Incidentally, it is silly to pretend that any of us are immune from buying stuff for aesthetic or 'fashion' reasons. If that was the case we'd all be walking around dressed like Chairman Mao.

I was going to ask what those people who find Luigi cases wear on their feet.............

That depends on how much money they have left :D

Ooops - that was meant to read "I was going to ask what those people who find Luigi cases so objectionable wear on their feet"

I'm assuming its newspaper, string and carrier bags :D

Let me see if I have this right, and correct me if I'm wrong. That sort of personal insult is evidently ok with the moderator. But if someone--not me of course--we're to say that guy's who love Luigi cases prolly wear pink ballet slippers, that person would get banned?

Jimmy, if you're unable to follow James' metaphor just say so and we'll explain it.

Hint: he doesn't really think people wear shoes made out of newspaper and string.

I'd really love to here your "explanation" of the metaphor, on account of it oughta give us a good laugh. :D

Hint: just because someone puts a smiley doesn't mean he wasn't trying to insult someone :D

Thanks Jimmy - no smilies here I hope you'll notice!

The point James was trying to make - and I'm sure James will correct me if I misrepresent his views - is that some people seem to be saying that there is no point in buying an expensive case since it does no better of a job than the cheapest case you can find. On the other hand people do not tend to use the same criteria when buying shoes. Rather than buy the cheapest shoes available - or at least the cheapest 'hard wearing' shoes - they pay more, partly for reasons of fashion, but also because they enjoy buying good craftsmanship, even if that craftsmanship doesn't directly affect the ability of the wearer to walk from point A to point B.

Perhaps there people who buy there shoes for other reasons and there happy about that.

Hope that simple enough.

Wrong on both counts jimmy.

Firstly, James made no personal insult to anyone so it does not attrract moderation on that score.

Secondly, if you, or anyone else, suggested that Luigi case users wore pink ballet slippers, we would all (probably) laugh at your obvious misinformation.

For clarity I can assure you that I do not usually moderate unless one of two things occur. (a) a personal insult is used, (B) or I receive a complaint from a Forum member. Other Moderators may differ.

I know from your PM's to me that you consider me Quote pitiful, really pitiful Unquote, but let me assure you that whilst that may be true, I translate it as powerful, really powwerful!.

I think that disrespecting the "P" in PM says something about one's character. I thought a moderator's role was to set an example for proper netiquette...not to get off on being powerful. I guess if this is the last post you guys see from me that I was wrong on both counts. ;)

I, for one sincerely hope it is. Being controversial and objectionable serves no purpose whatsoever in fact it only diminishes the strength of the points you make. I am sure that you would have a very valuable contribution to make to this forum if only ego did not get in the way

That's pretty funny. The moderator posts a snippet, completely out of context, from a private communication, then boasts of being "powerfull!" and I'm the one with the ego?? The problem on this forum (aside from the lopsided moderation) is that it's impossible to make a negative comment about a camera or even a case without someone taking it personally. To many guy's way to wrapped up personally in there gear. I know the difference between someone calling my camera a POS and them calling me a POS, but some people can't make the distinction. That should be there problem not everyone elses...but that's where the lopsided moderation comes in. Those guy's go crying to the moderator cause they think they've been personally insulted, and the moderator who has better things in life to do, instead of being logical, just oils the squeakiest wheel. I get it, I really do. I'd prolly do the same thing if I was an unpaid moderator.
