He would like to buy an M6 TTL (he says he doesn't get the absence of lightmeter... ) used and he's looking on ebay among other places. What do you think a decent condition camera should cost him? An number of L-Forum members (and I) have had good experience with Igor. Igor always called me to confirm my order before charging me and shipping. Camera West always seems to have a large supply of film M cameras in stock. KEH is very reliable as well. SAMY's camera in Los Angeles occasionally has M-bodies, as well. Prices seem to range from $1,200 US up to more than $3,000 for special edition bodies still in new boxes. Hope this helps. Would a M6 non ttl camera cost less? or it doesn't make a difference? i know nothing about M bodies (not much about R either but at least I own one of those... :D ) would he have to carry a lightmeter at all times? i'm pretty ignorant about all this so please be gentle... (from me the first: used Summicron 50 and Tele Elmar 135, and a CV28... keep in mind, about this, that M6 can have different lens frames configurations...) Leicademon Posted June 25, 2008 Share #13 Posted June 25, 2008 I've bought and sold dozens of M6's and am confident of these prices- US$1200- $1400 for a good TTL but you'll get a decent 'classic' for under $1000 if you know how to play the ebay game. The only real difference between classic and TTL is the flash metering and direction of shutter speed dial. so if you don't use a lot of flash (who does?) go the classic. Otherwise try Igor Reznick... check at igorcamera.com. He's a fair dealer in Cleveland who's prices are pretty good (though a bit more than eekbay)... do consider an M5 though. Guest maddoc2003jp Posted June 25, 2008 Share #14 Posted June 25, 2008 I got mine (M6TTL 0.85x) in nearly mint condition for ~ 1500$ from popflash-photo and the owner (Tony Rose) is a pleasure to deal with. Buying from a dealer has the advantage that you get some kind of warranty and avoid the evil-bay gamble... The M6TTL has a slightly improved meter (~ one stop better EV in low light and with three LEDs instead of two as the M6 classic) but a slightly higher (~2.5 mm ?) body -> you can't use old lenses with googles. I bought one recently from The Classic Camera in London for £799.00 which was a fair price as the camera is in mint condition. I would avoid ebay like the plague for something like this. A dealer will give you some sort of guarantee, in the case of TCC it is 6 months. Servicing on Leica cameras is not cheap so some sort of guarantee is imperative. A more important consideration is, what lens is he going to buy for his newly acquired body. A good Summicron mint 35mm can cost £895.00 and a 50mm £200.00 less.
