studiosixtyseven Posted September 19, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 19, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I work now for some years with the LC1 and i use a lot the wide angle (28 mm) i was thinking it's time for upgrade, want to invest even if it's € 4000. then i saw the M8, first i thought WOOW i want that one. The biggest problem for me is the croped sensor size, i want to buy a 24 mm lens, perfect when the M8 got a full frame sensor, now i need to buy the Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21 and the external viewfinder. so i will wait for the M9. then i looked at the D3/L1, hmm it's to much buttons and functions and i prefer the summicron (i realy love this lens). don't like the mirror system. The focussing in the optical viewfinder from the (D3/L1) will be a big problem for me. and a lot of functions that i will never use like the cinema settings (toys for me) and the menus is almost a windows XP (i prefer to leave that home). I think that the simplicity from the D2/LC1 is perfect, using the shutter halfway to view the DOF is perfect for me... i hope tat the M9 will come next year... earleygallery Posted September 19, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2006 You sure you want an M9? You realise that is the next film M, with an upgraded version of the shutter from the M8 (special dampers to make it ultra quiet), hotshoe only flash connection and spot metering mode. I think you're after the M10, which is as per the M8, but with the upgraded shutter, pc flash connection, wi fi, full frame sensor and increased frame line range to 16mm. But unfortunately it's not due to be released next year.
jbstitt Posted September 19, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 19, 2006 Maybe the M8 is here to stay awhile and from what I read it looks like a great camera if it fits one's shooting style. I would hope with the "system" approach to the Digilux system that the Digilux 4 is not too far in the future and it a reversion back to an upgraded D2. I have a friend who recently handled a L1 in Japan and he said it is a disaster - dark, clanky with the mirrors (certainly not silent) and quite awkward to use. He went to three stores looking at cameras and at each store no one was looking at the L1. Push the shutter release on live view and it sounds like the camera is falling apart with all the clanking. He asked the shopkeeper how many they had sold since July and at all three stores the owner said none. I keep reading more and more people who think Leica is making a BIG mistake abandoning what they had with the D2. Leica is going to have to do some real magic to make the camera a good alternative to the D5 and the D80. Hopefully they have enough clout with Panasonic to move back to the D2 type camera with upgrades to the sensor, buffer, and the interchangable 4/3s lens. So simple to do. I still will wait for final judgement until I see an actual Leica Digilux 3 but the more I read and hear the more disgruntled I get. I too certainly am hanging on to my D2 until I am convinced. there is a better camera out there for what I shoot.
studiosixtyseven Posted September 19, 2006 Author Share #6 Posted September 19, 2006 I think that the M8 is build in mind to upgrade to a full frame sensor, look at the vieuwfinder. replace the software and sensor, i think that the shutter is already full frame (not sure) ok maybee in 2 or 3 years... i will wait..
