M8 with Visoflex

Will it work?

The M8 is I think 0.5 mm taller than the M7. But the Visoflex III with 90 degree r/a finder leaves a small clearance between the top of the M7 and the finder. I need to measure the gap, obviously.

In any case with the vertical chimney type of finder there would presumably be no problem, and even using a Visoflex II (with vertical finder) should be no problem.

I think this opens exciting possibilities. Perhaps it will even revive interest in the Visoflex.

Thanks for all this encouraging information. Of course, I should have checked on the German forum. Interesting thread over there. The M8/Visoflex combination seems to generate much more excitement on that side.

Mechanically, the Viso (all three of them) should work.

Actually, only the Visoflex III will work fully. The M8, like the M7 and the M6TTL have a taller body; thus the tripping arm of the Visoflex II will not reach their respective shutter releases. The tripping arm of the Viso III is shaped differently and has a much larger adjustment range.

Another issue is the 90 degree viewer - the one made for the Viso III will clear the taller bodies, while the older viewer for Viso II will not clear. Theoretically, one could use a Viso III finder on a Viso II body, but you'd run into the tripping arm clearance problems again.

As there is no linkage between the Visoflex I and the body, there should be no problem using it with the M8, but what a pain...... You need a tripod or at least three hands to use the Viso I on any Leica.......

All the best,

Jan

Like Jan said....

There's a nice Viso II nearby here for $90, but its prism (with the 'step' down between the prism and eyepiece, and the round eyepiece) won't even go on an M7. And nothing I'm interested in shooting will hold still long enough for waist-level viewing.

But considering a Viso III plus an old 280 costs less than a Nikon D80 body alone, I may try to track one down once I have my M8 to check its functioning for myself.
