The weekend was a lovely spring day, and most were relaxing, some at the local beach.

But just up the road this driver forgot his handbrakes. :o

Good catch. You mean a Land Rover couldn't just drive out of the situation?

Richard

Well..., yes, with relative ease if ten people pulled the right side of this vehicle down so that the driver could get in. :) Not everyone who OWNS a Land Rover knows how to drive one however... One MIGHT expect that the owner of such an old Range Rover might have had a clue. Then again, forgetting to set the hand brake? More like, "Daddy was not best pleased". Was the driver blond?! :D

William, looks like he is "high centered"..if he had a winch , he'd probably be able to get himself out no problem.

I prefer of course the old " Land Rover" expedition type a real off road vehicle.

Great set.

Thanks for sharing

Hello John,

Hmmm... Looking at #1 and #2, I don't believe it's high-centered but resting on the left rear steel corner panel or rear bumper which is connected directly to the very stout chassis. The problem here is the angle at which it is resting. 45 degrees is the max and this one is almost there. Back to my comment above. At this angle, driving ahead would be risky. Steering to the right would instantly flip it. Steering slightly left would right the vehicle and driving out would be no challenge but I can't see whether there is sill clearance on that side. Using a winch anchored to the driver's right would certainly secure it and bring the right side down. I have a sneaking hunch the driver of this vehicle did not even know how to set the center diff lock. :)

Actually, this appears to be a late 70's - early 80's Range Rover. It has a 100" wheelbase and will do considerably more than a Series Land Rover because it is coil-sprung with only 1" less ground clearance but considerably greater axle articulation, i.e. 11" front and 13" rear. Only my Defender 90 (92.9" wheelbase) can do more off-road. http://www.leica-camera-user.com/discus_e/messages/11/209087.html?1146021066 Scroll down.
