So there is definitely some pretty hardcore weatherproofing knowhow at leica...

Leica Camera AG - Observation - New: Ultravid HD Range

I'd really love a camera where the weatherproofing was good enough to warrant adding that Aquadura coating to the finder and IR filter...

The binoculars are not just weatherproof they are waterproof, mine have been under water several times. I guess weatherproofing a camera is more demanding, I suppose. It would be nice though.

Hmm. It would take enough gaskets and internal focusing. So that means you'd need yet ANOTHER line of Leica lenses that were internal focusing.

If they made a line of lenses like that - it'd be a good reason to finally fork out for a new lens. Assuming the camera body was already weather sealed.

They could just make a couple of lenses in the weatherproof range initially, I think many of us would be interested in a 28 cron weatherproof. Again, assuming they also made a weatherproof body.

The binocs are excellent. I have a pair of bright orange trinovids, which have also been underwater several times.

Before I bought them I used to wonder why anyone would spend so much cash on a lens that doesn't even take pictures.. then I took them sea kayaking in NZ and walking in Austria.. now I know :)

...we tend to forget - amongst the 'doom and gloom' of whether the m8 is good enough for professional photojournalists in a combat environment - that leica sports optics are considered the absolute top brand amongst sports hunters, birders, etc., operating in the harshest of sports environments...
