psamson Posted June 15, 2008 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm considering a used D-LUX 3. Two quick questions. Does it have a counter for total pics taken, such that I can see how heavily the camera has been used? Is it possible to charge the battery via the USB cable (connected to my laptop)? Advertisement Posted June 15, 2008 Posted June 15, 2008 Hi psamson, Take a look here D-LUX 3 questions. Frame counter, and charging via USB? . I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
tvopdx Posted June 15, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 15, 2008 You cannot charge via USB. But the battery charger is very fast. The counter runs up to 999. You can set it to reset numbering. More than 999 pictures get stored in new folders on the card. If you have more than 999 pictures USB import may not work properly. If the battery isn't full and dies during USB transfer, data loss will occur. It is strongly recommended to use a card reader, not USB for data transfer. I got a 4GB high speed card. It came with a USB 2.0 reader and import is very fast and reliable. Shoot RAW unless you are shooting fast continuous shots. You'll love the additional post processing flexibility. If you are shooting fast repeated shots RAW writes too slowly to the card; shift back to jpg; you won't lose much and will gain a lot in write speed. psamson Posted June 15, 2008 Author Share #3 Posted June 15, 2008 Thx. On the frame counter, I was actually wondering if there is an internal counter for total frames taken in the lifetime of the camera. Nikon has a frame counter. It is not readily visible, but one can download a piece of software on the Internet and see the data in the pic/file downloaded from the camera. sdommin Posted June 17, 2008 Share #5 Posted June 17, 2008 Thx. On the frame counter, I was actually wondering if there is an internal counter for total frames taken in the lifetime of the camera. No, not that I know of. I believe that feature is only available on some higher end DSLRs.
