gfoulstone Posted June 11, 2008 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just purchased a M7 second hand from a very good and reputable camera shop. Problem is the M7 will not shoot on automatic mode or will it wind film on. Works perfect in manual mode. We checked and replaced the batteries and still no luck. Unfortunately it has now gone to Leica UK for repair, but I wonder if we were too hasty and if we had overlooked some basic error. Anyone any ideas? budrichard Posted June 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted June 11, 2008 Was the lens cap on? If the cap is on in AUTO, and an exposure is made, the camera will appear to lock up as no light is registered on the meter and the shutter just stays open.-Dick
Stan Yoder Posted June 12, 2008 Share #3 Posted June 12, 2008 When you say that it will not "wind film on", this implies that you think it has a motorized film advance/shutter cock. It doesn't, unless you attach an accessory motor drive.
gfoulstone Posted June 12, 2008 Author Share #4 Posted June 12, 2008 Yes sorry, it won't wind on due to the fact that it will not take a photo. My fault, bad description.
Ivar B Posted June 12, 2008 Share #5 Posted June 12, 2008 I experienced the same with an M7 some time ago, and then the problem was an electronic defect which Leica repaired swiftly. You did the right thing by sending it in.

JHAG Posted June 14, 2008 Share #7 Posted June 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Ivar, just hope it doesn't take too long to repair. Still I still have my M6 My advice : 1/ Track your repair on Leica website (Repair Tracking) 2/ Call customer service to alert them on your repair. I t might hasten the return. It did for my two cameras sent in recently : back after a month.
leitz_not_leica Posted June 15, 2008 Share #8 Posted June 15, 2008 Won't the shutter close after 32 seconds in auto even with the lens cap on?
JHAG Posted June 15, 2008 Share #9 Posted June 15, 2008 Won't the shutter close after 32 seconds in auto even with the lens cap on? It will : I experienced this error myself, when forgetting to uncap the lens. After the countdown (visible in the VF), shutter closes.
