I notice that google.analytics.com and pixel.quantserve.com take up a lot of the time while loading the Leica Camera forum. What are they doing that takes so much time?

Until I figure it out, I blocked them in my hosts file.

GA counts visitors and where they're coming from

From its numbers the forum owner can generate reports about what people are reading, where they come from, how long they stay, etc

It's the de facto standard of documentation for selling ads, too

Thanks

It's like Allan said - Google Analytics is for me a very important tool to analyze the usage of the forum.

Quantserve was a test for other details - the results are poor, therefore I just removed it.

I realized what they were for, but was asking what they were doing that was taking up so much time. This site would not completely load the main page and the web browser would show it is busy (spinning color wheel).

My webserver wasn't always hanging on the google analytics, but is seemed they were having server problems/slowdown. Perhaps you might want to rethink where you load the google analytics in relation to the rest of the L Camera forum web page loading or put a timout in the script if the google site is unnavigable or slow.

Rob,

I just took a deeper look:

Google Analytics isn't the problem if the page loads slowly.

If there is a bottle neck, it's Amazon and Feedburner that deliver the book ads and the links to the Classifieds section.

Please understand that I need all these external tools to maintain the site and earn some money in order to run it.

Best regards

Andreas
