biglouis Posted September 17, 2006 Share #3  Posted September 17, 2006 Brian  Too easy for me as I know the area very well and bought my D-LUX 2 from the shop around the corner. All I will say is that I think the guy at the top was a right-royal nutter.  Louis  PS Nice photo!
spylaw4 Posted September 17, 2006 Author Share #4 Â Posted September 17, 2006 I guessed that you might know it! But I am not sure you have the right royal!
biglouis Posted September 17, 2006 Share #5  Posted September 17, 2006 Brian  "But I am not sure you have the right royal!"  Now I'm curious. I do have a guide book for the area with the answer in it somewhere but I'm not too sure I have the energy to find it. I'll let you inform us of the answer in due course.  I keep meaning to go down there and take some photographs. I'd also like to have a look inside as I understand that the renovations have been both outside and inside.  Did you get a chance to look around inside and is it impressive?  LouisB
spylaw4 Posted September 17, 2006 Author Share #6 Â Posted September 17, 2006 Very impressive - a wonderful job of restoring to its original layout. Curiously though, a little unfinished in places! Still some work to do.
ejd Posted September 18, 2006 Share #7 Â Posted September 18, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don't like to take away the suspense, and perhaps knowing (or believing one knows) the answer is a disqualification.... but I believe it is Nicholas Hawksmoor's St George, Bloomsbury. The stepped tower is inspired by the mausoleum at Helicarnassus, and the royal on the top is, I believe, George 1st. It is being restored -- or maybe they have finished. I'm looking forward to taking a good look at it when it's finished.
spylaw4 Posted September 18, 2006 Author Share #8 Â Posted September 18, 2006 Well done John! Quite correct. As I indicated above the restoration is virtually finished. It was open on Open House weekend and I presume that it will now be generally open for visits.
