snaggs Posted September 17, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would love to be able to order a A La Carte M8, in a MP body and without the LCD (have the old ISO dial instead). Think it will ever happen? Daniel.

marknorton Posted September 17, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 17, 2006 I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would love to be able to order a A La Carte M8, in a MP body and without the LCD (have the old ISO dial instead). Think it will ever happen? Daniel. I think you're dreaming. All "a la carte" ever did was to offer alternative trim parts to standard cameras. A different wind on lever here, a different rewind knob there with possibilities for engraving the top cover and fitting different leathers. If you think the M8 electronics will fit in an MP body, you really are living in the land of the fairies! In time, we might see them offer different trim to the M8 but right now it would be a diversion from the core task of getting the thing out to start paying for the millions of investment euros it's taken to get this far. treeplanter Posted September 17, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 17, 2006 I do wish they'd offer the option of having the Leica name engraved on the top plate, like the MP. The top plate of the M8, with all of that black paint, looks almost naked. Jim Bielecki
frc Posted September 17, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 17, 2006 Somewhere over the rainbow there's an M8 with a topinscription. I feel the same about the M8's esthetics, there where there's been the cutoff at the rewind-side it now faces us with a void. No cutoff, no inscription, nothing to see but one small circular lcd-screen. Other dislikes: ugly red dot, hopefully replaceable by a grey or black one, huge M8 logo, please smaller and on top. Well....... Gaffer-tape should do the job. Fairies? Don't Leica like their clients anymore! I'd like to see an Erwin Puts signature model with Dutch cow-skin. Mooooooooo........ brunom Posted September 26, 2006 Share #8 Posted September 26, 2006 John I have to agree with you that the end of the top plate is very bland - why couldn't they have retained the idea of a [spring loaded ] 'rewind knob' that you pull up and twist for direct ISO changes and to have placed the frame counter/battery indicator where the frame counter has always been ? Maybe there was no room with the new viewfinder for the ISO changer, but when a full frame version comes [?] these small touches may be considered . You could always wait in the hope that there might be a military version in camoflage khahi for the Bundeswehr or the US Army (the KE-xxA ?) :D
