Advertisement Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Hi Guest MP User, Take a look here donut-bokeh, swirly-bokeh, christmas-tree-ball-bokeh, YOUR-bokeh!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael-IIIf Posted May 29, 2008 Share #22 Posted May 29, 2008 I've been lurking on this forum for a few years and for some reason chose this thread to finally post something. This morning I took a shot of my dog (shameless pet photo) with the 75 lux at 1.4. I love how creamy the OOF rendering is on this lens and how it makes the foreground jump out. I'm sure I screwed up something during this post, but hopefully it won't keep me from posting more in the future. Larry Larry, Welcome to the forum. Nice shot - let's see more please. I too like the softness of the OOF on the Summilux 75. Keeping the pets theme here's a 75 snap of our ex-cat; looking her old age. Michael Welcome, dear visitor! Perspectics Posted May 29, 2008 Author Share #23 Posted May 29, 2008 On the R my favorite is the Summilux 80 at around f/4 Martin, I'm totally enamoured with your first picture. Composition, lighting, skin tone and texture, and bokeh... wow. But wait, bokeh-wise the third is even more pleasing to me. I love the candy-colored-donut-bokeh. Cheers, Claus
Guest maddin Posted May 29, 2008 Share #24 Posted May 29, 2008 Martin, I'm totally enamoured with your first picture. Composition, lighting, skin tone and texture, and bokeh... wow. Much to my embarrassment I have to correct myself: #1 was the 2.8/180 apo:o whoops...
lrodenbo Posted May 29, 2008 Share #25 Posted May 29, 2008 Larry, Welcome to the forum. Nice shot - let's see more please. I too like the softness of the OOF on the Summilux 75. Keeping the pets theme here's a 75 snap of our ex-cat; looking her old age. Michael Thank you Michael and Claus. Michael, I really like the expression on your cat's face. I dug up an old pic of my cat shot with the 35 cron IV on my M6 as an example of when I like the bokeh of that lens and also a recent shot from my vineyard with the same lens on an M8 as an example of when I find its OOF rendering to be a little distracting. delander † Posted May 29, 2008 Share #26 Posted May 29, 2008 The shape and size of the background objects and their distance from the object in focus surely play a large part in the 'bokeh'. The images shown here all vary in these respects. Jeff
gdi Posted May 29, 2008 Share #27 Posted May 29, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) G'day gdi, I don't think it matters what lens was used for that shot, IMHO the background detracts from the image. Background should be background, particularly if we choose to have it OOF. In this case it is intrusive and therefore not really background. Regards Mike Thanks! I'll have to add this to my little book of photography rules!
gdi Posted May 29, 2008 Share #28 Posted May 29, 2008 This is the most amazing bokeh-shot I have ever seen. Actually I saw your picture on Rangefinderforum and it was exactly the pic that triggered my interest to dig deeper in the bokeh-intrinsics. Thank you so much for posting! Yes, over the top and bad can be amazing!
offshore Posted May 30, 2008 Share #29 Posted May 30, 2008 I prefer the bokeh from a swirling glass of Tokay but in this example it is from a 35 Lux non-asph wide open on a Leica M8. 4X5B&W Posted May 30, 2008 Share #30 Posted May 30, 2008 MP User, I like the IQ of your shot, I have the Pre-ASPH Lux 50 myself, and find the Bokeh smoothness much nicer at f:2.0 than wide open. Seems to be working for you.
Perspectics Posted May 30, 2008 Author Share #31 Posted May 30, 2008 Would anybody share contact information of the former forum member "maddin" with me? I'd like to contact him in order to have him back here, something bad has happened in the German section... Send a PN to me, pls. TIA, Claus
Perspectics Posted May 30, 2008 Author Share #32 Posted May 30, 2008 Yes, over the top and bad can be amazing! Hopefully you don't suffer the vicious-attack-syndrom - over the top and bad can be very good!
Perspectics Posted May 30, 2008 Author Share #33 Posted May 30, 2008 This is the Noctilux of course - fully open. I find the bokeh of the Nocti more "fun" when you have some highlights in the background - but then again, this creamy look and selective focus is unique to the lens. Nox rocks! Thx, enjoying your pic! Post a head-shot, too, feet made me nosy !
Hookeye Posted May 31, 2008 Share #34 Posted May 31, 2008 Thanks Perspectics. Sorry, I have no suitable bokeh Nocti head shot for you. But at least I have another with toes in it. This one (as you can see) is shot in Arosa, by the way. The first one was incidentally from your home city; Zürich . Welcome, dear visitor!
