Indeed and it does a beautiful job with M8 files which I'll talk about more in specific once I'm allowed to. Whatever it's weaknesses may be, C1 is my favorite program for RAW conversion and I use it for all my work with various cameras (my own). I have no affiliation with PhaseOne at all but I do think Leica made an excellent choice working with PhaseOne.

Cheers,

Sean

Well i am also a huge C1 fan but more important it is the best thing going for the DMR and it would not surprise me for a second if was the same with the M8. Leica was really thinking when you buy a M8 you get C1 as part of the package

John you can download a trial version for 30 days on Phase Ones site. it supports many camera's . it is worth the time to try it out and see how it feels to you. Some folks love the workflow and some don't. ACR to me the default calibration is just too far off and with the DMR you really need to do a custom calibration.

Sean,

Have you tested LightZone (Light Crafts)?

It has a plug-in version (LightZone RT) that works with Photoshop, Aperture or Capture One...

Hi Ruben!

I'm afraid that I haven't even heard about it. Right now, one of my main tasks is get caught up with the articles that need to be published and get several jobs to clients. But I'll check it out when things are slower. Are you bound for the M8?

Cheers,

Sean

Sean, when you have the time (and the camera) I would love to see some commentary on the C1 package compared to something like ACR.

I should do a C1 review and will try to at some point. I also need to do a review of these excellent Whi-Bal cards I've been using. Meanwhile, I second Guy's suggestion about just downloading it and playing with it. The recent versions just seem to nail color beautifully for all kinds of cameras. I'm really a B&W photographer but use color for some projects (and, of course, for a lot of commercial work).

Cheers,

Sean

I was actually trying to get Sean to do the heavy lifting. 8-)

Doing a Raw Converter review would be like putting a gun to your head , and yes you would want to pull the trigger. honestly it is so hard to do a comparative between different converters because there is no real standard to go by because all the defaults are different for each program. but a overall of how the program works and it's pro's and cons yes. Hey Sean would jump on that one. ROTFLMAO

Honestly there needs to be a video on this and Phase at one time was going to do it but fell through the cracks.

Thanks for sharing that. I have been using the C1Pro for my capture back for close to 3 years, for color and skin tone, I think C1Pro is great, my own experience, second to none. The RAW file, Canon CR2, developed from C1 result to be sharper and more DR than from Canon software or from PS. The only thing I can't get well is the B&W, I can't get it right from C1Pro and always have to rely on CS2.

I am all go for M8, can't wait mine to deliver.

My broadband access is pretty restricted here in Aceh so I will have to wait to download this latest C1 version. At first I had not thought of getting the M8, just because I'm really a "R" person but, by the start of the new year I should indeed have my own M8.:D
