Advertisement Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Hi rosuna, Take a look here The last 100 Noctilux. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Dantist Posted May 18, 2008 Share #22 Posted May 18, 2008 They are discontinuing the current design. Rumors has been rampant about a cheaper more mass produced lens but without the rare glass of the current design.Had a similar feedback. One of the glass included in the Noctilux is built with a very rare and expensive material. But the provider to Leica (Shot... ?) has decided to stop it because "the knowledge" has gone : pensioned... Such a pity This lens provides such high quality results that it can make a profitable market by itself. But where hides such a brained boss ? Anyway, I won't pay some 2000 € for a woodbox including stuff that is supposed to disappear from the market
veraikon Posted May 18, 2008 Share #23 Posted May 18, 2008 One of the glass included in the Noctilux is built with a very rare and expensive material. But the provider to Leica (Schott... ?) has decided to stop it because "the knowledge" has gone : pensioned... as far as I heard (also rumors) there are two problems: First the glass. It contents the element Beryllium (Be), which is poisonous and therefore it very expensive to produce and handle it. (one of the reasons the Noctilux was produced in Canada). The second as you described the human problem at “Elcan”. The lens was manufactured in a very small working group and the "the knowledge" is going: pensioned.… Both rumors seems for me reasonable and the main reason that a new designed Noctilux without Be-glass may be produced in Solms or from 2010 in Wetzlar Leica Park. steich Posted May 20, 2008 Share #29 Posted May 20, 2008 Any idea why this press release is only in French? Is the "press leak" in Paris? Or will the last 100 sold in France exclusively? Regards Stefan
Guest s.m.e.p. Posted May 20, 2008 Share #30 Posted May 20, 2008 Nice Box. Looks more like a humidor than a lens box.
Philippe D. Posted May 20, 2008 Share #31 Posted May 20, 2008 Any idea why this press release is only in French? Is the "press leak" in Paris? Or will the last 100 sold in France exclusively? It's just because a french Leica dealer released it first. In France, only 6 will be available from July. You may put your cigars in the box when using the Noctilux.
patashnik Posted May 20, 2008 Share #32 Posted May 20, 2008 The funny thing is, I just inherited enough to buy a couple of those I'll get one.
ErikFive Posted May 20, 2008 Share #33 Posted May 20, 2008 I think I will sell mine if the prices rise even further. Rather buy a pre-asph lux 50 and use the rest on something else. Maybe a 35 lux asph. I know its not the same, but I will use them more often and that counts more to me.

JBA Posted July 29, 2008 Share #37 Posted July 29, 2008 I suppose if you are in to collecting , then welcome aboard. These are sure to mean something down the road. But if you admire the lens enough to use it, then why on earth would you pay that kind of inflated price ? Yesterday I took delivery of a current model notilux in LN condition for $5240. I believe that if you want one badly enough, they can be found for somewhere in the $4000 to $6000 range. It all comes down to the purpose of the purchase. Ken I know a shop in Tokyo that currently has ten (10) used Noctiluxes for sale in the $4000-$6000 range.
rick_dykstra Posted July 29, 2008 Share #38 Posted July 29, 2008 Very nice box. Everyone should get a Nocti - they're excellent as a loupe.
