Baxter Posted May 15, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 15, 2008 Thanks Chris Very timely and helpful. For Mac, it actually replaced the V4.0 in Applications folder without the need to uninstall. I haven't had a chance to try it out properly yet.
Guest jimmy pro Posted May 15, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 15, 2008 What's the advantage to upgrading? According to the release notes it doesn't sound like anything new and important has been added for the M8, and the list of known issues with the new version is longer than the list of issues it solves
cbretteville Posted May 15, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 15, 2008 Well, it does attempt to estimate the aperture used to shoot an image. It doesn't use the data in the makernotes directly but applies its own calculations to the raw data. The calculation is also different from the one Sandy uses in CornerFix. It is still an estimate. Based on analyzing a limited set of files it isn't necessarily more accurate, just different. Note: My comparison was done using a beta of 4.1. - Carl

Jamie Roberts Posted May 15, 2008 Share #6 Posted May 15, 2008 You guys are missing the big picture here, maybe... 4.1 is aimed at supporting Phase Backs... --tethered support is back in with hot folder access; that's great news for some shooters --lens cast, fringing and lens calibration stuff is new to version 4, and though I'm not a betting man, I know it works right now with Phase cameras only; good thing Leica works with Phase now, right? Did you see the "chromatic abberation, purple fringing and lens cast" adjustment on the clipboad? --better hue adjustments and new UI stuff--it's a lot easier to copy and paste adjustments, which is nice! --anything that makes it more stable and faster is good. So this is a "shape of things to come" release, which is a very good step along the way, I think.

Guest jimmy pro Posted May 15, 2008 Share #8 Posted May 15, 2008 Yeah, thanks Jamie for reinforcing what I was already feeling, that for an M8 user (which is the only thing I use C1 for), it prolly isn't worth the hassle upgrading from 4.0.x especially since you have to manually uninstall the old one. It means I'd have to manually move all my custom profile files into a temp folder and then re-insert them in the new version, plus write down all my personal settings and set up the new version all over again. I can't remember the last time I came acrost a professional software where an incremental upgrade doesn't install itself over an older version. Thankfully I don't have purple fringing or C/A issues with my lenses on the M8!
chris_livsey Posted May 15, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted May 15, 2008 I did post "requirement" but it was early this am I should have quoted with greater accuracy from the release notes. To clarify : Quote If you previously have installed versions of Capture One 4 on your computer we recommend that you should start by uninstalling these before you install this version of Capture One 4. Unquote I did this and was not required to re-enter my key. I suspect Baxter you may find that rather than copy over the existing version you now have both available. But I may be wrong it has happened before I am told stability has improved. I have experienced some unexpected close downs (on Mac) and memory hogging. Early days to se an improvement it was very intermittent. The tethering is very welcome for the MFDB.
Mauribix Posted May 15, 2008 Share #10 Posted May 15, 2008 ...it's a pity that I can't install it... I deleted the old version, and installed the new one, but it's asking me a new serial number since the software says that i reached the maximum number of possible installations... Quite irritating:mad: Do you know how to use my serial number again? Do I have to buy a new M8? I just went back from my seller's shop looking for a new Sandisk card with a valid C1's serial, but it's no longer in the bundle with the card...Have you got solutions guys? Thanks
