dcsang Posted May 17, 2008 Share #21 Posted May 17, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Andreas has it exactly right. I had an M8 that worked fine for months and suddenly developed this problem. Sent it to New Jersey where they replaced the circuit board. It took a while to get the camera back, but it's working fine now. But it is a pain in the neck to have it happen, isn't it? JB Same here. My camera is in Solms currently for the same issue - I had it all of 2 weeks before I noted the lines in every image from day one. Dave

badpets Posted July 11, 2009 Share #22 Posted July 11, 2009 Does dead pixel cause vertical line in M8.2 ?

cmdrfire Posted July 13, 2009 Share #24 Posted July 13, 2009 I noticed that the darn line and what appeared to be a dead pixel started appearing in all the photos I took while I was away in San Francisco. Photoshop got rid of the pixel when I imported in the DNG but the line remained. I blew over the sensor with a bellows and the "dead" pixel disappeared - seems to be a very fine piece of dirt on the sensor I guess. Need to take some more photos outside now to see if the line is gone as well - I hope.
Icarex 35 Posted July 14, 2009 Share #25 Posted July 14, 2009 I found a "dead pixel" a few weeks ago. Leica immediatly accepted to replace the sensor. I am waiting for the M8 within a few days
badpets Posted July 15, 2009 Share #26 Posted July 15, 2009 are you implying that dirt on sensor would result a vertical line as well? sorry if this question seems silly, just want to make sure. cmdrfire Posted July 15, 2009 Share #28 Posted July 15, 2009 are you implying that dirt on sensor would result a vertical line as well? sorry if this question seems silly, just want to make sure. It seems to me to have been the cause in this instance; I need to take some more pictures (which I will do later today when I'm out) to be sure. But certainly in my "test" images against a light background the pixel and accompanying line that were there were gone after I cleaned the sensor. I'm kind of hoping that this is the case; my camera's been a good performer so far and I don't really want it to be sent back to Solms, out of warranty et al. cmdrfire Posted July 15, 2009 Share #29 Posted July 15, 2009 Well, further to my previous post... the "dead" pixel is still there, as is the line. So I guess it's over to Solms. I'll also get them to check my focus while it's there - every single one of my pictures today was slightly out of focus with my 28 cron, I don't think the camera's been knocked anywhere or anything but likewise I really don't think my eyes would have just stopped focussing like that... kalina Posted July 16, 2009 Share #31 Posted July 16, 2009 How many M8 users have found there are dead pixels on the CCD? I just found 1 (it appears like a dot, I presume it is a pixel) on my M8 CCD in the recent trials. It was not there when I firstly got this camera. Need to send it back to Solms for repairing. I've had dead pixels on almost all of my cameras, be they Leica, Nikon, or Canon. They don't impair my work because the LCD is just for a quick preview. Most people do all of their image work on a computer, not on the LCD.

He's talking about the CCD - the sensor on the camera. If there is a dead pixel on the sensor then that can be quite troublesome and should be corrected by the manufacturer as it directly impairs the image. ottocrat Posted November 24, 2009 Share #34 Posted November 24, 2009 I've found a single dead pixel on my M8.2's CCD (bought second-hand). It's not the end of the world, to be honest, but it's annoying. Surely there must be a photoshop action that one can set up to clone out a dead pixel automatically? (I suppose it wouldn't be hard to write one, I guess I should do it myself...)
