lemalk Posted May 9, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 9, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love my Digilux 3, and I try and take really good care of it - I'm not rough at all. However, the body has now developed some scratches on the top and bottom plates. I'm not a collector, I use my cameras, but I still would like to be able to have them look nice. Does anyone have any solutions to cleaning and removing scratches on the Digilux 3? My LC1 is black and doesn't show ANY scratches even though it's older. Is there a polish? Anything to avoid using? Maybe some Digilux 2 users have some experience with this as well. Thanks in advance.

dhsimmonds Posted May 9, 2008 Share #2 Posted May 9, 2008 It's one of the reasons that I preferred the LC1 to a D2! Too many D2's seemed to have lost silver paint on the body. My LC1 has accompanied me around the world twice including an exhausting tour of Australia, including the outback which is a harsh environment for anyone and anything! Many other sojurns across Europe and up and around Snowdonia it has endured. Now on it's second sensor having succumbed to the dreaded and well known sensor problem when I was without it for 10 days early last year, it is my most reliable and relied on camera. I do not treat it especially well, it is a tool, an extremely good one to get a job done. Why on earth wasn't there a follow up to these great classsic camera's (LC1 & D2)? jdlaing Posted May 9, 2008 Share #3 Posted May 9, 2008 If I recall correctly, there is a product made to polish the cases on Ipods. It was supposed to clean off minor scratches without damaging the finish. Applesauce Polish Restores the Original Finish to Your iPod Applesauce. Hrmph. Perfect name. Brasso and a soft microfiber cloth may do the same as it is a superfine abrasive.
Ruhayat Posted May 9, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 9, 2008 I doubt it can be polished back into pristine form -- it's just silver paint, not metal. I tape mine with black electrical tape. It also helps to make the camera more discreet -- before that I used to have people walking up to me to ask about the camera because of the red dot. It was getting annoying and distracting.
