Just to remind you guys of an old post of mine :D (thanks, Pete;))

I'll be around to collect my Brownie Points when the R10 does indeed turn out to be a square-format mini midformat camera.. :D:p

And a further prediction: the lenses for this new system will have a register that is the same as the R system, making this a handy MF system in a similar or smaller size as the IDsIII, but with 30+ MP, with a simple R adapter and landscape/portrait switch .

The sensor will need the Leica/Kodak patented shifted microlenses because of the shorter register, so it will be an unique system too.

I don't think he does <grin>.

I can't see how an MF camera can use R lenses. If for no other reason than the mirror would foul the back of the lens. Take a look at any MF reflex camera and look how far the mirror sticks out. Further than an R lens would need to be able to focus to infinity.

I know nothing, I just analyze. :) I have a good chance of being 100% wrong... This is my own private rumour :p

Steve - I said the same register distance as 135 class system. Just a larger circle of coverage - giving M8-like problems and solutions (except an in-lens IR filter)

As for the mirror: look at the old Leica Kurbelschleife patent. It is possible to have an SLR system on a short register.

That's no big deal - I'll just send it out and have a little bit of the front edge of the mirror 'trimmed' - just like the old days so I could use a couple of the newer R lenses on my good old, SL mot. It worked fine and had no image loss at all - hhhhmmmm, mirror trimming.....doh!!!!!! Probably wouldn't want to do it nowadays !!!!!

They do it on Canons nowadays to accomodate certain Leica R lenses.

Kurbelschleife was used on the earlier R cameras and is a system which pulls the mirror back whilst flipping it up through a system of little levers instead of a simple hinge. It can be refined I think to clear the back of an R lens during mirror movement.

I doubt that it will be as simple as that. Trimming worked on the Canon bodies because the mirror was only slightly too large. I doubt that would be the case with an MF mirror as they are much larger than a 35mm mirror.

Not to mention that any warranty on a _very_ expensive camera would be void.

What if it didn't have a mirror?

Apart from an EVF you'd still need something the size of a mirror to reflect the light towards the viewfinder, and I doubt that there's enough space even with a non-moving pelicle (sp) half silvered mirror.

As I say this is all speculation on my part, I'd love to be proved wrong.

They may sell of done, but I would have thought the light fall off would make the system difficult to use if focussing manually.

I don't think this is going to be a camera for the masses (not that any Leica is). If it _is_ MF, then it's going to be very expensive. A bit like the previous 'S' camera - again assuming that's what it's called. I'm not expecting the market to be flooded with used DMRs.

Not that I want you to leave, or anything, but:

Nikon D200HR

Read it and weep folks - AA filters have a horrible effect on not just resolution but also edge contrast and color clarity (read the introduction). If you don't know that you ain't edgicated.

Oh - and here's the 5D with and without the AA filter. Eeeeew! Hot Rod Visible

Man, you guys must have wasted hours, if not days or months, on the internet trying to google something and let me disappear. LOL

Have you downloaded their samples and closely checked the FULL EXIF?

It's a crook and cheated in their samples, the freaking redneck hot rod camera is set at a higher sharpness custom setting of course it'll look sharper. :D

Man, I've pointed this out so many times, on this forum.

If need be they could go to a concave-convex mirror and collector lens system. (How's that for being fanciful? ;))

I'm now starting to think that the R10 is just gonna be a complex mirror box ... you only have to look at the mirror - what you see is what you get. LOL

For the camera I describe I would expect a 9500 Euro pricepoint.

I think (sometimes!) that an 'S" camera would be that pricey,,,,,,,,,,,But I think the R 10 (yes IF there is both!) will cost less than that. The old 'hinge back, and up' mirror assembly sure was noisy (but efficient with my SL and SL2 mot's) in full speed mode. I can't see them spending the assembly money needed for such a set-up today.

Boy, Leica really has got a lid on this one.......I'm glad they have waited until Monday to let out the product/news.........it's almost here.
