INNOVATOR Posted May 6, 2008 Share #1 Posted May 6, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Everyone. this is my second posting. I have bought many cameras before. But every since I was about 15 years old and knew a bit about cameras, I had always wanted a Leica. I never bought one earlier because I thought it was way too pricey when compared with other brands in the same range. But I will be 50 years old on 10th July; and thought I'd get my wife to buy me one - early of course, since its only May now. So, I just got my silver D-Lux 3 a few hours ago. Yet to have a go at it. But I am looking foward to my next 50 years of life, and this time, the camera that will be with me is Leica, 24x7. I wanted the black, initially; but I have fingers that leave smudges behind easily. So, I took the silver, instead. I decided against the leather case as I noticed the case area around the barrel doesn't close firmly when closed, leaving a gap on both sides. Whereas, the normal case is well padded and provides full protection, especially against the weather.

roguewave Posted May 7, 2008 Share #4 Posted May 7, 2008 Welcome aboard. Don't worry about a case. It should be in your hands and ready to fire away. Post soon & often.
INNOVATOR Posted May 8, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted May 8, 2008 Hi marknorton. My user ID is the same for all the many forums I have signed up with. No problems with any of them. I do understand where you are coming from. I decided to stick with it when I was consistently tagged with it at my two professional courses I was attending because I was always with something knew in terms of gadgets and ideas. Cheers! Thomas Edwards Posted May 8, 2008 Share #6 Posted May 8, 2008 ...congrats on a fine purchase...careful, tho, leica'itis is contagious, and you may have the tendency to fill up shelf space with more 'red dots'...seriously, tho, your post should tell leica mngt something and to the extent mngt can translate that something into valued-added products at given price points, then the future should indeed be as bright as the rising morning red dot... INNOVATOR Posted May 8, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted May 8, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks, Thomas Edwards. You seem to know of me , I have been to the camera shop 3 times already, and am now thinking of getting my wife a c-Lux. As for the leather case, I am considering it very seriously, sought of "icing on the cake". I have read quite a few good reviews about the case, and am thinking of getting it for the times when I have to go for formal functions, sort of part of the dress code. The condura case can be used on my casual outings.
Thomas Edwards Posted May 9, 2008 Share #8 Posted May 9, 2008 Thanks, Thomas Edwards. The condura case can be used on my casual outings. ...i have found the d lux 3 leather case (is it even leather?) to be quite useful for a number of reasons: good protection, quick access, allows the camera to be carried without the lens cap, usable with strap or belt loop, stylish (for both casual and formal settings), easily cleaned... ...the downside is a comparatively high price (almost 1/4 the cost of the camera itself)...this factor becomes inconsequential of course if one should drop the camera...also, some website are selling the case for around usd 89...good luck... INNOVATOR Posted May 9, 2008 Author Share #9 Posted May 9, 2008 I notice the "U" loop opening rubs against the barrel. Even the zomm lever gets rubbed against, especially when slotting the camera into the case. I paid USD 714 for the camera. It came with the concura case, 2 x 2gig Toshiba sd cards, a screen protector and a secial photo book for USD25. Just provide the shop with the photos and they will make the photo book. The leather case is retailing for USD 137. They have offered it to me for USD 123. I want to try and knock the price down to USD 80.

INNOVATOR Posted May 9, 2008 Author Share #12 Posted May 9, 2008 I managed to get the leather case for USD97. I could not push the price down any further as elsewhere, it was retailing net price for USD123. Anyway, I'm quite happy with the case even with its slight imperfections.
