sean_reid Posted September 15, 2006 Share #21 Posted September 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm glad it's not part of the camera. I love that traditional look and feel. Much easier to add something to a camera body than remove something that was built-in. I agree. This way, photographers can have it with or without, as desired. It's very easy to mount because one just swaps base plates. S
Advertisement Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Hi sean_reid, Take a look here M8 handgrip announced - and "blue dot". I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
george + Posted September 15, 2006 Share #22 Posted September 15, 2006 But why is the tripod mount not in the optical center of the lens? Or did I see it wrong? And will there also be one of those cute lens carrier additions to the baseplate?

First design error rectified!! Rex
ChipNovaMac Posted September 15, 2006 Share #24 Posted September 15, 2006 If I have a disappointment with the new M8 is that the tripod area does not match up with the likes of my M6TTL. I am one of those that love using my Lens Carrier M on my M6TTL. Loved using it with my T-E and 90mm Tele Elmarit. For me, it gave some added support and a convience. Given the advanced pics of the M8 and the T-E Wide; I had some great thoughts of a perfect travel combo. A few of my fellow co-workers (I work for a Leica reseller) were jazzed that Leica hung on to too so many details from previous M models; including the bottom plate arrangement. The switch in the placement is a bit disappointing. Not a killer; but a disappointment non the less. I am hoping that they at least come up one for the M8. Leicaiste Posted September 15, 2006 Share #26 Posted September 15, 2006 SO - The mysterious blue dot does nothing but read ambient light and adjust the brightness of the finder readout. I don't think so. There is a little cell in the finder for that.
cbretteville Posted September 15, 2006 Share #27 Posted September 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looks like the M8 grip is bigger than the one for the film based Ms. This is good news as the current one isn't as large as I'd like it to be.
