sean_reid Posted September 14, 2006 Author Share #21 Posted September 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sean, I am able to log into your site and get the M8 photo and the first line of text, and that's it. After the long wait and reading others posts about your review and having already seen pictures of it, I am anxious to read more than the first line of the review. Is this the problem you are working on? Richard Hi Richard, Nope, you just need to use the scroll bar built into the site (right side) or click in the window and use your arrow keys. Cheers, Sean

Guest stnami Posted September 14, 2006 Share #24 Posted September 14, 2006 As usual an excellent view on an important camera by you Sean. No CL digital maybe next year. The D-LUX 3 seems worthwhile the Digilux3 well it fills a market spot, but not a heart stopper. Other than that it's all about saving for a M8 Once again Sean thanks for your article Imants
smokysun Posted September 14, 2006 Share #25 Posted September 14, 2006 hi sean, great scoop! and your review on the m8 everything a photographer interested in this level of equipment could wish. alas, i see it beyond my budget, and since i shoot mostly for post-processing, having that high degree of quality not necessary. still, it's a lovely camera, and i'm sure i won't be able to resist the new d-lux3. thanks again. great work. wayne
sean_reid Posted September 15, 2006 Author Share #26 Posted September 15, 2006 Imants and Wayne, Thank you kindly. Eventually the new equipment stuff will settle down and we can start talking about pictures again. The "street photography" article is not dead, just sleeping. icemendicant Posted September 15, 2006 Share #30 Posted September 15, 2006 Sean, thank you for the excellent review. I just subscribed to your site last night to read about the M8 but was extremely impressed with the other reviews and essays you have there - was up rather late reading... Your review was extremely well-written and thorough, and answered all the questions I had about the M8, save of course the image quality but I completely understand Leica's reasons for waiting until the firmware is ready. semrich Posted September 15, 2006 Share #31 Posted September 15, 2006 Sean, Thanks for the reply, I am at my regular compter now, and all is well. I will begin reading it now and feel certain from the replies I have read that I will be glad I have a deposit on the M8. Richard
sean_reid Posted September 15, 2006 Author Share #32 Posted September 15, 2006 hi sean, will u be doing the review of the 28mm and 35mm lenses together with the M8 and hte new 28 ASPH? Yes, over the coming months I'll be testing the M8 with the 21s, 24s, 28s, 35s and 50s. Will also test with both Tri-Elmars and some other lenses like the Noct and 75/1.4. Needless to say, that will take a lot of time but the articles will come out one by one as time allows. Naturally, I still have to balance writing with assignments, etc. With the 24s, I can save people some time by mentioning that the Zeiss 25 brings up the 28 mm frame lines in the M8 (not the 24) and so my recommendation would be the Leica 24 which is a great lens anyway. In the 28 - 50 range, I predict there will be several excellent choices for the M8 (from Leica, CV and Zeiss). The coding may tip the scales for some who can afford to go all Leica with lenses (or who own them all already). Cheers, Sean

marknorton Posted September 15, 2006 Share #34 Posted September 15, 2006 It's interesting that the Leica 21 activates the 28/90 frame set and the 24 the 35/135 frame set even though there have never been framelines for 21 and (up to now) 24mm. It will be interesting to see if Zeiss provide an update programme like Leica's to fix the lens mount for the 25mm so that the new 24mm frame comes up. marknorton Posted September 15, 2006 Share #36 Posted September 15, 2006 Which frame set comes up when you mount a lens depends only on the the length of one of the flanges on the bayonet ring so it would just be a question of Zeiss exchanging a bayonet ring with one with a longer (or shorter) flange.
