Klaus, good capture of this sky/light. BTW, we really share the almost same type of sky/light... interesting.

To follow up our little conversation, I'm curious about the workflow for this photo... The left clouds seem a bit burned out: could you obtain more detail from your RAW file?

Cheers,

Gérald

Gérald, the left cloud is lighted by the sun ( positioned left outside the visible area).

This is my seventh try based on one raw shot from which I made two different

exposed versions. The dynamic range of the D2/LC1 is poor, Gimp is still only

eight bit, the mentioned cloud is at exact 255. So this represents the limit, but the

fun with photography always was to drive poor tools to its limits, wasn't it?

Klaus, you're right. I just was curious about the relatively less poor features of RAW files... ;-) But, well, right now, I'm in shock: I just saw the M8 spec. ... and price... I've not seen a price for the D3, but I now am ready to cheat my D2 with a M... The question is: will my wallet agree?

Cheers,

Gérald

The D3 is a L1 and I fear all its shortcommings mentioned

here Panasonic Lumix DMC L1 Review

are warrantable.

It is only a Pansonic (which means sensor slightly below average and ergonomics

(though influenced by Leica) always not thought out enough) hybridized with a

Olympus (a synoym for always being far more from being perfect than Panasonic,

but with more interesting ideas)

The M8, I assume will shine on the ergonomics side and with the quality of the available lenses.

The dynamic range of its sensor however will not reach the Canon niveau.

Let us wait for a comparative review on dpreview.

A 'hands on' preview is already at Leica M8 Hands-on Preview: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review

I would prefer a Leica version of a LC2 with the fix mounted zoom lens

of the L1, an Canon sensor, an electronic viewfinder with 1 Mpixels,

the body of an M8 and a well thought out (reduced to the bare necessary) menu.
