winsoft Posted May 26, 2008 Share #21 Posted May 26, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I also own the DMR, and while the 5d files are very good--and I actually think it's one of the best overall dSLR Canon has produced to date in terms of file quality and handling--the DMR's files are much, much better. Are the files with the DMR really very much better then those of the Canon 5D? Same object, same Leica-lenses, same conditions?

Jamie Roberts Posted May 27, 2008 Share #23 Posted May 27, 2008 Are the files with the DMR really very much better then those of the Canon 5D? Same object, same Leica-lenses, same conditions? Conrad's response is right on the money: yes, I agree the DMR is in a different league in terms of colour depth and clarity than anything I've seen from Canon to date. So while I think the 5d is the sweet spot in terms of a reliable, economical and nicely designed (lighter) camera to use with Leica glass, the DMR files are simply gorgeous, especially in adverse light. They really are spectacular. The DMR also produces a more usable file more quickly for me. The Canons are good, but they require a lot of post to get them where I want them to go. It can be done, but it takes too much time. The DMR benefits from some amazing profiles written by C1 and Imacon as well... so for example skin tones are completely on the money at the same time reds and greens are unaffected (and process more to my taste for finished work). Ain't exactly the lightest package, though. I am getting older, I guess
