krabat Posted September 14, 2006 Share #21 Posted September 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Digilux 2 useed a zoom lens and was, in my opinion, an excellent camera. Right. And it IS still an excellent camera. I have got to admit that I am a little bit disappointed that Leica did not release a REAL Digilux 3, i.e. an enhanced Digilux 2, with a better chip, some other improvements, and that's it. I love the Digilux 2 because it does not have a slapping mirror, and because it can be used so simply with excellent results. Fortunately, the DL 2 still works fine in my hands, and I hope it will do so also the next years... Regards, Peter.
Advertisement Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Hi krabat, Take a look here LEICA ANNOUNCEMENT: New Leica Digital Cameras. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gareth_c Posted September 14, 2006 Share #22 Posted September 14, 2006 Unfortunately I sold mine to fund the purchase of an R-D1. Don't regret it as I love the R-D1 (my first rangefinder camera) but I do miss the Digilux2 and wished I could have afforded to have both! I did have some issues with it though such as the sometimes slow EVF, some manual focusing issues etc but still a brilliant camera. Oh and the fill-flash is a thing of genius! And yes, I think it is a shame that we didn't get a Digilux3 that is simply an upgraded Digilux2.
mark_a_h Posted September 14, 2006 Share #23 Posted September 14, 2006 Glad I have a D2... would never want to upgrade to this D3 monstrosity.
MJLogan Posted September 15, 2006 Share #24 Posted September 15, 2006 I knew there was a good reason I cancelled my Panasonic L1 preorder! It doesn't even seem that there will be too steep a Leica premium added to the price. So unless something else really astonishing comes out of Photokina, I'll be buying a Digilux3. J Mitchum Posted September 15, 2006 Share #25 Posted September 15, 2006 Yeah, I don't understand why they come out with a great camera and then abandon it instead of making improvements. It would have been so simple to put a new sensor in and to upgrade the RAW buffer it really makes you wonder what they are thinking. All the work on the body was already done. They really don't listen to their customers. Instead the Digilux 3 is an SLR at twice the price of the Digilux 2.
mark_a_h Posted September 15, 2006 Share #26 Posted September 15, 2006 They don't want us D2 owners to upgrade to the newest model, they want us to upgrade to the newest class... the M8.
yeungkeefu Posted September 15, 2006 Share #27 Posted September 15, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is great to see Leica launch them at the same time for Santa... I have my Digilux 2, it works excellent! All I want to see how much improvement, this prices for Digilux 3 is too high and with crop 2.0 I rather to consider M8. albertwang Posted September 15, 2006 Share #28 Posted September 15, 2006 Too bad the M8 isn't going to be all that useful for those macro shots I obsess about!
J Mitchum Posted September 15, 2006 Share #29 Posted September 15, 2006 Too bad the M8 isn't going to be all that useful for those macro shots I obsess about! You'll have to wait for the M9 and its full frame sensor. Should be at least a couple years so start saving.
ron110n Posted September 15, 2006 Share #30 Posted September 15, 2006 Goobye D2... I want that Panasonic with a Red Dot!!! But of course I'm disaponted... I paid $1750 for my D2 and that D3 is only a little over 1 grand! Here's the catch... Summicron cost more than the Elmarit.
cliffshen Posted September 15, 2006 Share #31 Posted September 15, 2006 I thought Digilux3 will have a new lens other than Panasonic one... But seems like I'll keep my Digilux2 still...
meatboy Posted September 16, 2006 Share #32 Posted September 16, 2006 Right. And it IS still an excellent camera. Guest stnami Posted September 16, 2006 Share #33 Posted September 16, 2006 I am sure a real D3 will appear once small sensor technology improves and nostalgia rears its head again
johnwolf Posted September 16, 2006 Share #34 Posted September 16, 2006 Are the Digilux 2 owners disappointed? I welcome the interchangeable lenses, though I don't know much about the four thirds format. Are there exceptional thrid party lenses in this format? I often need a bit more length than the D2 offers. But the small increase in pixels makes it a difficult decision. John
ron110n Posted September 16, 2006 Share #35 Posted September 16, 2006 I welcome the interchangeable lenses, though I don't know much about the four thirds format. Are there exceptional thrid party lenses in this format? I often need a bit more length than the D2 offers. But the small increase in pixels makes it a difficult decision. John Hi John, The four third system is designed "as intended" to be an international standard (ISO). You will be able to mount different brands of lenses that is manufactured in the four third format. Most likely, Leica will manufacture more lenses in the four third format since lens manufacturing is their strength and not electronics. This way, they can lure the Olympus, Sanyo, Kodak etc. 4/3 body owners to purchase Leica 4/3 lenses. I share your handicap with my D2. Since I am happy with the unique lens signature of the D2 that don't exist with Nikon or Canon; I have decided to keep it after my purchase of the D3. Though I have yet to findout the perfomance of the Elmarit vs. the Summicron. -Ron
krabat Posted September 18, 2006 Share #36 Posted September 18, 2006 I'm with you on this one Peter, some more MPixels and a few tweaks to the D2 would have made a DL 3 for me too. Tim Thanks, Tim. I will visit the Leica booth at the Photokina next week, and I will tell my (our!) opinion to the Leica representatives, just in case they don't read the Forum... Regards, Peter. kamilsukun Posted September 19, 2006 Share #38 Posted September 19, 2006 Right. And it IS still an excellent camera. I have got to admit that I am a little bit disappointed that Leica did not release a REAL Digilux 3, i.e. an enhanced Digilux 2, with a better chip, some other improvements, and that's it. Regards, Peter. Fully agree. Digilux 2 could well develop as a new Leica tradition allowing almost all owners to upgrade within few years after they purchase their first one. The same way we all do with our computers. Digilux 3 is a new and different camera. A serious photographer definitely avoids new cameras with different controls and response patterns that will distract his/her attention from the photograph itself. Let's hope Lecia may still consider a Digilux 2+. It is an excellent camera. Regards, Kamil
albertwang Posted September 19, 2006 Share #39 Posted September 19, 2006 I welcome the interchangeable lenses, though I don't know much about the four thirds format. Are there exceptional thrid party lenses in this format? I often need a bit more length than the D2 offers. But the small increase in pixels makes it a difficult decision. John Other non-Leica lenses that are impressive include: Olympus 7-14mm zoom Olympus 11-22mm zoom Olympus 14-54mm zoom Olympus 35mm macro Olympus 50mm macro (i don't know much about the Olympus telephotos but I suspect they are good) Also you can use adapters for Leica R, Contax, Nikon, Pentax K and M42, Rollei, Minolta MD, and even Topcon (way obscure)... The Leica telephotos and wides will be very impressive on the 4/3 standard although focusing is quite the challenge. But an electronic rangefinder would be nice. gogopix Posted September 19, 2006 Share #40 Posted September 19, 2006 do I understand there will be adapters to use R lenses on the Digilux 3? I am sure the registration distance is less than the R and the image circle will likely cover the 16:9 ok. Anyone know? Leica doing it? Third party?
