rob_x2004 Posted September 13, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 13, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) People still trap monkeys, and I know they still shoot them. And the orphans? I guess they adopt into a loving, if equally barbaric family. Vang Vieng small trader, just up from the river. ... You reckon he sat still for this don't you. stuny Posted September 14, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 14, 2006 rob - A most appealing shot. However, when we encountered primative tribes in the Manu (Peruvian tributary to the Amazon) we met an orphaned howler monkey (see our Peru pages, the 2nd photo on page 1, and the first photo on page 2) named Arturo. The natives killed the mother for food, and caged Arturo until he was big enough to eat. The eco-lodge we stayed at traded food for Arturo, and Arturo now lives free on the grounds of the lodge. He and Barbara became very close. I wonder if these little guys in Mongolia are future food.
