$2,500 might not = dream fashion studio, but you could get a decent 2-light monolight kit and some nice modifiers.

Elinchrom 400BX kit with stands - $1300

27" beauty dish - $260

53" Octa softbox - $320

Grid set - $200

Manfrotto background holder - $230

Roll paper

Misc stuff

That brings you up to about $2400

Dream studio might be:

3x Profoto Pro-7a 2400 Pack - $24,900

6x Pro-heads - $10,800

Plus stands, booms, b/g support, modifiers - about $8,000 - $15,000 depending on modifier selection

So, a "starter" dream studio comes in around $50K.

Most rental studios have at least $150K worth of Profoto. This is why top fashion photgraphers rent when they need the dream setup. And some shoots call for up to 30 heads... now you're talking over $250K.

Hope this helps. If you have a specific goal in mind, I can offer suggestions if you'd like.

Or get a daylight studio, reflectors and an expresso machine. That's how I might do it.

For beauty shots of one person at a time, a background and a beauty light.

In any case I would focus on how to make the person in front of the camera feel comfortable and beautiful - and then the light of course, available or artificial.
