Stunsworth, when problem occur with your RAM, try (if you don't know it yet) :

- a PRAM alt + Apple (Cmd) + PR

- a reset NVRAM : Alt + Apple + OF

until reboot, then lift your fingers off the keyboard,

then in the console screen, type :

reset-NVRAM then you press enter

set-defaults then you press enter

reset-all then you press enter

After that, your Mac reboots.

(Beside, after such a NVRAM reset, you will see it speeds operations).

Note that your AZERTY keyboard becomes QWERTY,

so the "Q" is an "A" and the "-" is ")".

I had Photoshop stuck this morning for bad access memory,

did this, and solved problem.

Hope this will solve yours.

PS : This is normal Apple procedure, not some geek fiddling with your beloved HD.

Thanks, I think I followed most of that. Don't know what PR or OF is I admit.

I didn't post the original message, and don't have an AZERTY keyboard - haven't used one of those for 5 years.

PR for Parameter RAM

OF for Open Firmware

With a QWERTY keyboard it should be easier, then.

If you Google "reset NVRAM" you will find a lot of entries.

Or best look for it on the Apple website > Forum > Discussions, then select your machine, which I always found pretty reliable (notably for Aperture).
