Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 12, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 12, 2006 Geez kind of a let down. i wanted some tall 6 Ft gorgeous leica lady with long blonde hair dressed in a red leica dot dress holding it in her hand for the unveiling. Instead we get some ugly guy, and all these months for the announcement and we get this . Yuk!!! at least the camera looks hot. LOL

albertwang Posted September 12, 2006 Share #10 Posted September 12, 2006 a beautiful woman holding a M8... that type of advertising would definitely turn off a professional cameraman because it's the photog shooting the model pictures not the other way around. marknorton Posted September 13, 2006 Share #12 Posted September 13, 2006 A lot of new pictures: MACANDPHOTO.COM - photo numérique sur Macintosh: Exclu : prise en main du Leica M8 ! R. Yes, but look what he says about availability... "...Impossible évidement de récupérer les photos réalisées avec cet exemplaire : le firmware n'étant pas définitif (c'était la même chose avec le petit Canon EOS 400D quelques jours plus tôt). Il faudra donc attendre quelques mois encore, avant de juger de la qualité des images de l'appareil allemand..."

spylaw4 Posted September 13, 2006 Share #15 Posted September 13, 2006 uhmn ok the only word i can read from there is "impossible" care to translate? Although I could just about follow the text, my French is now very rusty, so here is what passes for a translation by Babelfish - !! Impossible [cavity] to recover the photographs carried out with this specimen: firmware not being final (it was the same thing with small [Gun = Canon] EOS 400D a few days earlier). It will thus be necessary to still wait a few months, before judging quality of the images of the German apparatus... "
marknorton Posted September 13, 2006 Share #16 Posted September 13, 2006 With apologies to Pascal... Here's my effort instead... (our posts crossd)... "Apparently impossible to recover the photos taken with this example: the firmware wasn't finalised (same thing with the little Canon EOS 400D a few days later). It'll be necessary therefore to wait for a few months more before judging the image quality of the German camera..."
pascal_meheut Posted September 13, 2006 Share #17 Posted September 13, 2006 No apologies needed, your translation is correct. I'd translate "évidemment" as "obviously" rather than "apparently" but that's all.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 13, 2006 Share #18 Posted September 13, 2006 Mark i don't think you will be waiting for test images. LOL I know you are standing at the door of your favorite photo shop waiting to get one. LOL
marknorton Posted September 13, 2006 Share #19 Posted September 13, 2006 Mark i don't think you will be waiting for test images. LOL I know you are standing at the door of your favorite photo shop waiting to get one. LOL When I put my name on the list at my dealer, they suggested I try the R-D1 to get a flavour of what the M8 will deliver in spades. I've very much enjoyed the R-D1 with my Leica glass this summer and I expect the M8 to move the game on hugely. I also desparately want to see Leica survive as an independent camera manufacturer. I visited Solms just yesterday, a car park filled to bursting which hints at just how busy they are, but in the reception, an area of calm, a wall of Leica history and a shop displaying the world's greatest cameras and lenses. A section through a Tri-Elmar and an M7 with the top removed to show the exquisite engineering. This has to be worth supporting. I've no doubt at all that Leica will exceed my expectations of the camera.
gogopix Posted September 13, 2006 Share #20 Posted September 13, 2006 "... firmware not being final..." Also seems no SD door yet so I think it is meant for tethered operation.
