woodda Posted April 13, 2008 Share #1  Posted April 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Help. Hope you do not mind this post. I know the general question has been talked about hope these questions are not duplicates.  I have been Leica user for 20 Years but am finding the focus frustrating. All the cameras and Lenses are Callibrated amd I am not optermistic on camera shake which I was originally.  1. Has anybody got a direct comparision between dare I say the Nikon D3 and the M8. Same picture, same original ratio. 2. I love the Leica 3D feel will I loose this with a Nikon D3.  Reid, if you are reading your views would also be great I notice you have not reviewed the D3 yet I think  Thanks in advance

woodda Posted April 13, 2008 Author Share #2 Â Posted April 13, 2008 Just taken a few more shots and maybe I am reassured. When I can justify a D3 I would though. Which lenses would people buy
stunsworth Posted April 13, 2008 Share #3  Posted April 13, 2008 Which lenses would people buy  I find a 24mm Elmarit, 35mm ASPH Summicron and a 75mm Summicron just about cover everything I need to photograph. These are three outstanding lenses.  I do also keep a Voigtlander 15mm in the bag, it's so small that it takes up hardly any space at all.

Which lenses would people buy  Why don't you ask this on the Nikon forum, where people have the experience with them?  Nikonians :: The Nikon User Community  I wouldn't ask what Leica lenses to buy on a Canon forum. woodda Posted April 13, 2008 Author Share #5 Â Posted April 13, 2008 Thanks for the suggestion. I find this forum balanced on their views and many have a D3 Nikon. I find the Canon and Nikon forums a little more biased. If you can afford both you will in my opinion be more balanced. Thanks again. Appologies I hope I do not offend anybody as this is a bit generalised a view maybe.
cocker Posted April 13, 2008 Share #6 Â Posted April 13, 2008 If you can afford both you will in my opinion be more balanced. Â Â No - very unbalanced as the Nikon is much heavier and will definitely give you a list to one side.
stunsworth Posted April 13, 2008 Share #7 Â Posted April 13, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nkon lenses are back to front too - assuming they still have focus and aperture rings. Â Â Let's say you were buying a Leica for the first time and had some questions, would you expect to get a better response to your Leica questions on a Nikon forum or a Leica one? Â I'm not even sure how many people here have a D3, there's been a lot of talk, but not too many purchasers as far as I recall It's the new kid on the block, hence the level of chatter. When the next big thing comes along the chat will move to that and the hand wringing will begin again.

Gee Steve, that's a tough one !  Is that a film M, or M8 question you're thinking of ?  A balanced response? No, you got me there. woodda Posted April 13, 2008 Author Share #10  Posted April 13, 2008 OOPs when I mentioned balanced I meant users here often have or had the opportunity to use the best so might have a more rounded viewed on all products (no particular axe or camp to support). By the way that is a compliment to forum members.  M8 by the way I am using.  Handringing is for me that Leica is quirky and unless you have the best elsewhere aswell you might feel trapped as you do not want to sell. Anyway I suppose I should just go a take pictures
Guest s.m.e.p. Posted April 13, 2008 Share #11  Posted April 13, 2008 2. I love the Leica 3D feel will I loose this with a Nikon D3.  Just taken a few more shots and maybe I am reassured. When I can justify a D3 I would though. Which lenses would people buy  You are talking about "3D feel" and in the next posting show a picture with total flat lighting - direct flash.  I suggest you to learn more about "3D lighting" than believing in LEICA 3D-Voodoo. Theodor Heinrichsohn Posted April 13, 2008 Share #13  Posted April 13, 2008 OOPs when I mentioned balanced I meant users here often have or had the opportunity to use the best so might have a more rounded viewed on all products (no particular axe or camp to support). By the way that is a compliment to forum members. M8 by the way I am using.  Handringing is for me that Leica is quirky and unless you have the best elsewhere aswell you might feel trapped as you do not want to sell. Anyway I suppose I should just go a take pictures  Here is an "unbalanced" response. I have been using film Leicas and many lenses for more than 20 years and have 2 M8's and many of the new asph. lenses. I sold a Canon 5D and associated lenses and purchased a D3 + the 14-24/2.8, 24-70/2.8 and the 70-200/2.8 + the 1.7 tele extender.. I did not like the files it produced, although the D3 without doubt is the best thing I have used for high ISO situations because of its very low noise. I was not happy with the definition at sizes larger than 80x120cm prints made by a professional printer. The M8 files produced prints more to my liking, however with much more noise. Result: I sold the D3 + lenses at a loss and purchased a 1DS/III instead. Better definition and not as good high ISO noise performance, however, better in my subjective view. There is no single "right" choice. It depends on your preferences and your subjects as well as your purposes. Therefore I strongly recommend actually trying out each option yourself and determining your choice without being influenced by any kind of hype of one kind or another. Albert4321 Posted April 13, 2008 Share #17 Â Posted April 13, 2008 I am currently using M8 + 5D. Still own most of the L glasses. Just sold my 1D2 and will get the D3 soon. Â D3 + Zeiss 28 f/2 will be my starter Nikon combo. probably it is cheaper for me get get a 1DsIII because I own all the lenses and flashes. But hi ISO capabaility, full frame pro body is what I need. Â using three system for wedding gigs can drive me nut. My life is already complicated enough when I added the M8 in the mix. :-)
