JHAG Posted April 10, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 10, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I intend to create my double website, as author (my books and published texts) and photographer (pictures and series). As this is time and money consuming, I have to delay this project until autumn (or even end of 2008). Meanwhile, which solution would you go : Zenfolio or SmugMug ? Advertisement Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Hi JHAG, Take a look here Zen or Smug. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Arif Posted April 11, 2008 Share #2 Posted April 11, 2008 I have used zenfolio for a while and have been quite satisfied with it. It has a very clean interface and very easy to manage. Sometimes I wish there was a place for comments from visitors. Best regards, Arif

ASpes Posted April 11, 2008 Share #4 Posted April 11, 2008 I intend to create my double website, as author (my books and published texts) and photographer (pictures and series). As this is time and money consuming, I have to delay this project until autumn (or even end of 2008). Meanwhile, which solution would you go : Zenfolio or SmugMug ? not an easy answer, as it depends on many personal factors. I've been on Zenfolio for almost two years now, and there are quite a few things I do appreciate about it. First the interface, which is really sleek and elegant, and easy. Got some friends and customers on it, and they are not computer savvy to say the least, and were all very pleased with it. Second, customisation can go as deep as the single pic. Third, but this should go first, I had no problem at all in all my time with them, and that's something that cannot be said for many of the main sites of this type. But maybe the thing I do appreciate most is that Zenfolio has one of the best resizing algorithm around, so I don't have to provide for different sizes, and this translates in lot less work for me, besides being sure that my pix will show at their best (whatever this could be :-) ) on all screens. Recently they also put up a commercial plan for the selling of your pix, and this was the main basic difference with Smugmug. The two are not identical but are now really comparable for all uses, and I prefer to do all my editing on my computer. Zenfolio is younger and still under development, for instance the comments ability is on their short list, but is fast, sleek and rock solid. Last but not least prices are pretty good for all plans, and you can upgrade whenever it suits you. My suggestion is to go for the trial period and see by yourself. Just my 2 (euro)cent of course. JHAG Posted April 11, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted April 11, 2008 Aspes, thanks a lot. In fact, I'm with you regarding the sleek, elegant, no fuss interface of Zenfolio. I just wondered if SmuMug was not more visible. I have some projects regarding my pictures, and wish to have the maximum possible return for it prior to have my own site. Again thanks a lot four two cents !
ASpes Posted April 12, 2008 Share #6 Posted April 12, 2008 ... I just wondered if SmuMug was not more visible. I have some projects regarding my pictures, and wish to have the maximum possible return for it prior to have my own site. ... Hope I don't get wrong what you say, but if you count on them to beat the drum for you, I think you could be ... off beat. Like Zenfolio in their welcome page, they might show some pix of a few photog, but that's for their own visibility, I mean Zenfolio, and not yours. Whatever your choice, it's on you to promote your page and make it stand out of the crowd. It's a jungle out there ... (:-)) Best.
JHAG Posted April 12, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted April 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's a jungle out there ... (:-)) Best. Is it ? Just wondered about number of visitors and hits frequency. SmugMug might be more frequented.
