UliKK Posted April 8, 2008 Share #1 Posted April 8, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I just want to share an idea how to get rid of the D-Lux 3 lens-cap-on-strap-trouble: Since I have that wonderful brown leather case which Leica makes for that camera I just needed a solution to eliminate that hazzle with the lens cap after taking the camera out of the case. (But I still wanted a lens cap on the lens when the camera is inside the case. So not using it at all was no solution.) All you need to do is this: Open the 2 small screws inside the D-Lux lens cap. Open the inner part of the cap and remove very carefully the 2 snappers and the spring. Put them on a safe place in case you want to reverse everything later. Then close the inner part and put the screws back in. Now you need some double sided tape. Cut some layers of it in a size smaller than the diameter of the cap and put it on the outside(!!) of the lens cap. Now put the cap back on the camera, move the camera back into the case and close the case. Put some gentle pressure on the lens part of the case. Now open the case.... the cap stays in the case!!! Voila! Maybe someone likes that idea as much as I do... (It's also a nice spot for a name and phone tag) Best wishes, UliK Welcome, dear visitor! I bought, and use daily, the leather case mainly because I feel it protects the lens well enough to simply leave the cap at home. It´s not dust- or rainproof, of course, but a cap wouldn´t protect the control buttons and switches, which are just as prone to let unwanted moisture in. What you do is simply to reinforce the "lens protrusion" part of the case, and I´ve always felt it´s quite rigid to begin with. YMMV, of course; I´m certainly not trying to start a quarrel about this, but what kind of hazard to the camera do you feel you have eliminated by this?
