jpmay Posted September 10, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought a couple of apple laptops recently (I was in the Dallas apple shop, the smaller one - it's great)... and I was amazed to discover that you now get a choice of MATT or GLOSS screen on the laptops. Do any afficionados have any thoughts on that? Would it affect any of your Aperature work? JPM
Advertisement Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Hi jpmay, Take a look here apple laptops -- shiny or matt screen ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
philipotto Posted September 10, 2006 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2006 I couldnt say anything scientific particaly relating to accuracy or calibration. But at the Mac store the glossy looks so much richer, thats the one I would get.
gareth_c Posted September 10, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2006 I have gloss on an old vaio and prefer it to my matte mac. The colours are more vibrant and rich and you seem to get better contrast too.
geoff Posted September 10, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2006 Matte finish - best suited for production. Most appropriate where color accuracy and constant calibration is an issue. Glossy finish - best suited for presentation of finished product. Most appropriate in delivering a “WOW” impact as an off-screen electronic portfolio device. jason Posted September 10, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 10, 2006 Glossy = You get annoying, distracting relections.
frc Posted September 11, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 11, 2006 Just bought a bottle of I-clean with a cloth. Rubbed the screen for some time. I-can see clearly now. Unbelieveble. Wow!

albertwang Posted September 11, 2006 Share #9 Posted September 11, 2006 Indeed, I have a really hard time determining contrast using the regular matte screen on my 12" PB.
leicanewbie Posted September 12, 2006 Share #10 Posted September 12, 2006 generally the glossy screen will have sharper picture than a matte screen, given the same monitor specs. the trade-off being the reflection, but an anti-reflection film would take care of that.
