biglouis Posted September 10, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've gotta get a tripod. Just been trying to macro shoot the spider that has taken up residence in my garden and its got to the point where I need a stable platform. Thing is, when I look at the size of tripods and then look at the size of the D-LUX 2 there seems to be a disconnect. Does anyone have any recommendations for a tripod which is better for a smaller camera like the D-LUX 2? Just thought I'd ask LouisB

jank Posted September 10, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2006 I use a Leica table tripod, (the larger version which van be packed flat by rotating legs) ,and Leica ballhead, the taller one. You can screw a monopod onto this small and very strong, sturdy tripod , you can stand on its legs to stabilize it. It then has quite small footprint. Handy feature , you can use it in crowded places too when using telephoto. Jan
farnz Posted September 10, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2006 Louis, I use a Velbon VTP-815 which is light (505g) but stable, mostly metal and has telescopic lockable legs. I replaced the head with Novoflex mini Magicball and it really is the dog's danglies! The tripod is small enough to easily fit into my gadget bag but extends to just over a meter. petermcwerner Posted September 11, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 11, 2006 This little pocket tripod that is sold under various brand names stays always on my FX01. It is small enough so that camera+tripod still fit in the pocket of my trousers. It is both a good handgrip when using the camera hand-held and it can be held against a house wall, a tree, a bench to stabilize the camera.
starwatcher Posted September 11, 2006 Share #6 Posted September 11, 2006 Louis, I am afraid that you need some flexibility/movement possibilities with the tripod, regardless of the camera it is carrying. You should look for a Gitzo...unfortunately very expensive; but you could use it for heavier equipment as well... best - Klaus
steve kessel Posted September 11, 2006 Share #7 Posted September 11, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought the Manfrotto digi tripod for my d-lux 2 recently and then later the Manfrotto monopod. The tripod is very light, so I think vibration is an issue but I can't be sure. I have enjoyed using it though - mainly for close ups in the garden - flowers, etc. Strangley enough I find the monopod more cumbersome, possibly because I'm more ready to be patient in composing with a tripod, whereas with one has to hold the monopod while adjusting it and this can be irritating. All part of learning I guess. I think they're both reasonably priced as they seem well engineered and the camera doesn't look out of scale when mounted.
