philipotto Posted September 10, 2006 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I purchased this card sealed from a gentleman on craigslist. Everything looking good, until I inspeced the SD card, the label apeard different from that of the 512MB Ultra II, label was more transpearent and didnt apear to stick properly at the bottom. Card did not eject automatically from my LC1, had to pull it out. I thought nothing of it, a little strange, but perhaps just a newer model. Then I went on a trip to San Fransisco, and got the blue screen and write error message affter 131 photos (capacity is aprox. 484). I didnt bring another card so I wasnt able to shoot anymore. I was able to transfer the photos to my Mac no problem. Formated card and tried to transer data to the card, got really slow after 512MBs, when I tried to transer back, same problem. I called Sandisk for technical support and they asked for the serial number of the card, thats when I found out there wasn't a serial number on the card, as there is on my 512. I send the photos to Sandisk and am awaiting there reply. Welcome, dear visitor! spylaw4 Posted September 10, 2006 Share #3 Posted September 10, 2006 Now that's interesting, Phil. You will recall my thread "Faulty Card or faulty D2"? I re-formatted the 1Gb Sandisk Ultra II card that had been using, and took it out yesterday. After about 40 RAW shots the dreaded blue screnn of write error re-appeared. It stil recorded RAWs up until around 45 shots then refused to write RAW, only the jpeg. When I got home I got the photos off the card ok, took it out, put in another Sandisk U 2 card and the blue screen had disappeared without doing anything else. Re-inserting the offending card got the blue screen back. So it seems to be the card that faulty. Now your posting set me looking at the backs of the cards (Sandisk Ultra II). Both my 2Gb cards have serial numbers (albeit different styles), but both my 1Gb cards don't. The labels all seem ok except that the foil bit at the top on the front now seems to be a bit more bronze in colour rather than silver. Looks like the 1Gb's could be dodgy! budda Posted September 10, 2006 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2006 Unfortunatly (as I found out) there is a mass of fake Sandisk cards out there, especally on Ebay. Infact according to the help file on Ebay 95% of the Sansdisk product there is fake! (just type in 'fake sandisk' to google) The only way to get the real product is to buy from a bluechip supplier and pay the full money :-(
geoff Posted September 10, 2006 Share #5 Posted September 10, 2006 As budda says, "just type in ''fake an[D]isk'' to [G]oogle" I first became aware of this issue back in January, when I came across the following web page that featured detailed image comparisons between real and fake product: Fake SanDisk II SD cards revealed! Personally, I feel there are better products available than SanDisk anyway, fake or real. It’s always beneficial to do a bit of research beforehand, beyond locating the cheapest price and longest warranty rating.
